Spade ID size for Musical Fidelity A3CR amp? I'm not sure the 9mm spades will do. Those are jagunda binding posts. My solution is to put the spade in top down through the post hole and then tighten down. It works just fine.
SACD- my intial thoughts.... Bluefin,Well, there's the rub. The SACDs I've heard (on an SCD-1) were reissues of older titles. Quite frankly, I've yet to hear any "pure" DSD recorded stuff. Perhaps those will sound better, although the titles don't thrill me. And, I'm not abou...
SACD- my intial thoughts.... I agree with Buxter66. I've heard SACD and find it to be overly detailed to the point of fatigue. Sometimes, too much of a good thing is bad. I much prefer listening to CDs on my MF Nu-Vista CD player. The sound is simply glorious.
SACD on Redbook Player Well, not to get off track (I DO love the Stones), but my question is whether there may be something endemic to the DSD process which results in listener fatigue such as I have often heard when playing dual layer SACDs on my redbook player.
B&W 804's Vs. Vienna Acoustic Beethoven I've gotta disagree regarding the N804 analysis. Granted, the 804s don't have DEEP, booming bass. However, they do bass extremey well depending on the particular recording. Well recorded/mastered bass sounds extremely robust on the 804s while poor...
Thiel cs 2.3 or B&W N803,804? Personally, I like the N804s best. There's really not much of a difference between the 803 and 804s (7" woofer vs. 6.5" woofer and larger cabinet), but certainly not $1,500 worth. If you mate the 804s with excellent electronics (in my case, Musica...
sacd vs xrcd I've found xrcd FAR superior to SACD ... to my ears, SACD is very harsh and fatiguing. More info doesn't necessarily mean better sound quality. Agree with Bomarc that better mastering is the key. Many redbook remasters I've heard sound far better ...
Speaker Cable Feet: Suggestions? I found an exceedingly cheap and effective way to lift my cables off the floor (carpet). Go to Bed, Bath & Beyond and purchase some white, ceramic creme brulee cups for $1.99 each. Turn them upside down and lay the cable on top of the cup ... ...
indoor antenna? I'm in a similar predicament. Live in a condo with no outdoor antenna AND lots of appliances to interfere with the signal. I recently tried the Godar indoor antenna and its works GREAT. Signals come in strong and I can enjoy FM again.
Stereophile "confirms" Moncrieff's SACD comments ? Here's my take. It's really ridiculous to compare the SACD layers and CD layers. An SACD player is DESIGNED to play SACD better than redbook. Conversely, a really top notch CD player (e.g., MF 3D CD, Accuphase, etc.) is DESIGNED to to play redbook...
Using Power Conditioner to power on/off bad idea? On a related topic ... what about a situation where you've got the cd and preamp plugged into a strip and the strip plugged into a conditioner that has no power on/off switch. Will it do any harm to just unplug the plug from the strip to the condi...
ps audio juice bar It's GREAT. Don't hesitate about getting one. I use it plugged into an Ultimate Outlet and the set up is fabulous.
Best SS 200 wpc amps Add the Musical Fidelity A300cr (225 wpc - dual mono - choke regulated) to your list. I'm using one with N804 speakers and it just rocks. Well controlled bass, gorgeous mids, and clear, airy highs. MF and B&W gear mate extremely well.
From tubes to solid state I've found the best results with a tubed CD player and SS preamp/amp. I get the power and slam I want with that nice cream and air on top which the tubes produce. I think everyone should have tubes SOMEWHERE in the chain, and find the best place f...
Best sound at Stereophile show. I thought the Dynaudio and Phoenix horns were the best sounding. The Dynaudio (powered by the Naim electronics) had a palpable sense of air, space and a huge soundstage. The Phoenix horns (tied with the MBLs for the butt-ugliest speakers I've ever... |
