speaker/room bass modes I am using a digital Radio Shack meter and Stereophile test cd3 which I've been told is not very accurate in the bass. I know Rives has a test cd calibrated for the analog Radio Shack meter. I only have the digital meter and wonder if the Rives di...
Audio Magic cables? I use Illusion interconnects, and Excaliber interconnects including speaker cables. I have not found any other cables that I prefer above the Audio Magic. The only product I've tried that hasn't been a success are the speaker terminal jumpers.
Recommend a forward speaker One other thing you might want to experiment with is the jumper cables between the cabinets. Even a short piece of wire in this position can change the perspective quite a bit. I would suggest some silver wire like Audio Magic or silver coated cop...
Recommend a forward speaker Nautilus 802's project forward and won't bite when driven by good tube amps.
Amp stand for Antique Sound Lab Hurricane tube amp I'd be curious about the ways in which different amp stands effect amp sound. That they differ in appearance and cost is taken for granted. How many amp stands, Rhljazz, did you actually compare to come up with your "favorite"?Tarsando I currently...
Amp stand for Antique Sound Lab Hurricane tube amp I can't imagine that any amp stand, as long as it was the right size, would be any better or worse than any other amp stand. Undoubtably, there will be some who can imagine that.TarsandoUnfortunately Tarsando, you are completely wrong. There are m...
Note worthy Omni Directional Speakers.. I'll vote for the Duevel Planets. I heard them with Manley amps and preamp and that combination sounded like a much more expensive system than it was. It was engaging to listen to and had surprising bass for the size of the speaker plus the Planet...
N802 + Velodyne DD-18??? It is extremely unlikely that a sub would do anything to improve a dip at 50hz. A Rives Parc or a digital corecction system would be more likely to achieve the result you are looking for. Very few rooms are flat in the low frequencies. Just look a...
How many hours weekly do you listen to your system I listen to music about 20 to 25 hours per week. I have given up on TV except for auto racing and football. I can only watch one NFL game per week since that is all the advertising I can stand until the next weekend. I'm not a movie buff either. T...
Manufacturers don't get it. make tubes visible. I like to see the tubes exposed in the power amp. It is not critical in the preamp. jmcgrogan2 nails it pretty close, it does possess that relaxing warm feeling like sitting by the campfire. A chrome chassis that reflects the light from the tubes ...
product you use for dusting equipment I use an ostrich feather duster for normal dusting.
Favorite reviewer? Without a doubt it is Roy Gregory. His reviews are descriptive so that when I'm finished reading, I have an understanding for the feel of the product and what it does or doesn't do and he goes to great length to educate the reader to not accept th...
Anyone audition the new Thiel 3.7s yet? The ad says "Prepare to be amazed" and I was, but after listening, I wasn't.
Some impressions from the 2007 RMAF: If you are talking about room 509, my notes describe the sound as bright, edgy, no warmth, and a lack of bass, but the biggest tube amps I've ever seen. I guess that's why there are so many different speakers.
RMAF: My favorites, so-so's, and disappointments I visited this room several times both on Friday and Saturday in the process of comparing my favorite rooms. The sound of the Crescendo was good on Friday, but absolutely stunning the next day. It turns out that the speaker was brand new, essentia... |
