What If?
Viridian, I think if Stickman451 put an acoustic panel like a GIK 244 panel in frt of the k horns that effect would be eliminated.
What If?
How about Quad 988's or 989's? The room length to width should be favorable and Quads are awesome with tube power. They are fairly light and compact so you should be able to move them out of the way. You will get a sound of beauty and finesse. Whe...
Gas or Charcoal
Weber gas grill for ease and convenience, charcoal cheapo grill for best flavor and texture. I use the gas grill about 90% of the time.My system is all tubed but I use CD 90% of the time. I guess I'm lazy most of the time.
sub woofer amp hot on Vandersteen 5a's
Is the source digital or vinyl? If it is vinyl, perhaps the amps are overloaded attempting to reproduce subsonic rumble.
subwoofer connection to unfriendly amp
07-16-08: Ghostrider45I'm not sure I understand your proposed hook up without a diagram, but it sounds like you're planning to hook the REL to both amps simultaneously without a switch. This will effectively route the output of the active amp to to...
Maple platform question
I have a Mapleshade amp stand with the squish worm and spif middle. The bob front is in fine conditon with a gutter chicken top.Chashmal (Threads | Answers)So, I'm guessing you don't like the looks of yours? How about the the sonics, or have you n...
subwoofer connection to unfriendly amp
What about a speaker selector switch??The speaker cables must run unimpeded from the amp to the speakers. I don't want any degradation in the signal delivered to the main speakers. I would only even turn the sub on a small percentage of the time.
Aragon to Classe.....
In horizontal biamp, both channels of one amp are responsible for bass in both left/right speakers, so that one amp is exposed to the heaviest load while the other amp is loafing only being asked to drive the mid/tweets of both channels. In the ve...
is my room small for a pair of B&W 802's
Your room dimensions are sufficient to handle N-802's, perhaps a bit large if you are looking at the old matrix 802's. Classe mono 400's are probably overkill unless you like techno music at 100+ db.
Maple platform question
I have both the John Boos butcher blocks and the Mapleshade platform and I prefer the Mapleshade. The Mapleshade is worth the worth the extra cost IMHO. The difference is better balance throughout the frequency range and better delineation of micr...
The best hifi magazine?
HiFi+ is the best. I can actually have a good feel for what the product sounds like and how it operates after reading one of their reviews. There is an exception, which are Art Dudley's reviews in Stereophile. They are excellent as well. Stereophi...
New Listening Room
I'm in the process of adding room treatments. I just received my order from www.gikacoustics.com today. Their prices are more than reasonable. I will have the weekend to get everything set up. Another site I found with some sublime diffusion panel...
Nordost Shiva, Vishnu, Brahma?
I've auditioned all three and prefer the Brahma. I was expecting the Valhalla to be a significant improvement over the Brahma, but it didn't work out that way for me. The difference between a Vishnu and Brahma, even on a low power consumption digi...
How many of us look under the hood??
It's pretty much a given with tubed preamps that at some point you will have the lid off. I look at the quality of the solder joints, internal layout and overall quality of construction. I always like the photos in the magazines of components with...
Remotes: Who needs 'em?
My VAC pre has a solid heavy remote that looks classy and exhibits a tactile sense of pleasure when operated. It only has buttons for volume, mute, and source so there is simplicity and no confusion as to what does what.I do dislike the cheap plas...
