Is MOFI L. Ronstadt Prisoner in Disguise better?
I don't have the original pressing, but my Ronstadt MoFi LP sounds good on my system. I don't hear anything that stands out in a negative way.
Good amp for B&W 804S for the space-constrained
Jdec, I tried the W4S briefly (new out of the box) on my ESP speakers which were designed for a tube amp and it sounded ok but not awesome. I only ran it for about 14 hrs, and in that application I preferred the Cary which is second fiddle to the ...
B&W Nautilus 802 or Wilson Audio Witt 1?
I have no experience with the Wilson Witt, but I do have a lot of experience with the N802. I have used tube amps which I felt better matched the mid/treble range eliminating some brightness. I am currently using a W4S amp which may be the best co...
Good amp for B&W 804S for the space-constrained
Wyred 4 Sound STi 500 is only 14.5 deep. I have a ST500 running my N802's right now and it is excellent, punching way beyond it's price point.
B&W 802N
I set the 802's up on Sunday powered by the W4S ST500 running balanced inputs from the VAC ren. I'm at 30 hrs on the amp and very impressed with the results. The bass is very well controlled, but it is the mids that I find special. It doesn't poss...
Your favorites amplifiers for their visual look ?
Any tube amp with a chrome plated chassis. The Pathos Logos with the ingenius heat sinks is striking, the Viva Solista is gorgeus, especially in person, the VAC Phi amps and also the Renaissance 30/30, and lastly the casework on the Rowland gear i...
Does 21g seem high for effective tonearm mass?
Another choice you may not have thought of, is Origin Live. They have arms priced over a fairly wide range.
B&W suggestions - N803 vs. 804S
Nichonoff, you might want to check out the Wyred 4 Sound integrated. I hooked up the N802's this weekend powered by the ST500 which is not broken in (19 hrs) and was very impressed by the results. Excellent bass control and not at all bright or ag...
B&W 802N
I would suspect 70 watts might be too little. The best bass I could get was with a VAC Phi 110. This was superior to Classe CA300 and DR8, and the VAC PA100. From the bass up, the VAC PA100 is the champ. I have a new Cary 120S and a W4S St500 whic...
Full Range Speaker That Can Play Near Boundaries
Check out the Guru speakers. They are specifically designed to be placed close to a wall.
Speaker Question...first post on the gon
Another consideration would be Emerald Physics using your amps biamped rather than bridged. They will put out some serious sound pressure.
Sumptuous, lush, rich, liquid golden midrange amp?
VAC PA100 has a palpable rich midrange, extended top end with a nice fat (but not too fat), round bottom end. The tube compliment should be Radiotechnique for the drivers and Winged C for the KT88's. Excellent build quality and easy to bias.VAC al...
Cable Elevators - What do you use?
Absolutely nothing! I've got cones, spikes, blocks, and more under equipment. Sometimes there's a need for a line in the sand. I refuse to apply any cable elevators to my system. It is possible to get great sound without them.
Cary, Cayin or Primaluna EL34 for Merlin VSM-MME
The Cary is the only one that is operating in class A. It is also made in America. This amp is truly special with the right speakers. I have not heard the Cayin or the Primaluna but can say the Cary handily beats the Stingray.
Have any VAC owners tried any KT-88's
Winged C labeled KT88 on the tube and box. www.tubesandmore.com
