Choosing a new turntable There is a Wilson Benesch "Full Circle" advertised today for 999.00 plus arm. A Rega or OL arm would work. I went with an Origin Live table. Audio Revelation carries the line. You may want to check them out. OL recieves favorable reviews from the ...
Tube preamp for techno and other bass-heavy music? Well, that explains why the VAC Renaissance has superior bass compared to other preamps I've used. It has no coupling capacitors in the signal path. That said, I don't think Rrolack will find an Atmasphere or VAC Ren for under 2K.
Diffusion versus absorption behind speakers? ASC tube traps offer both. The tubes have a partial reflective surface identified by a silver dot. You can change from full absorption to a combination absorption/reflection by rotating the orientation of the trap. I use 2 11x36 and 1 9x72 on the ...
B&W and deteriorating Kevlar drivers I am curious if you always had the speaker grilles removed? I have not noticed any driver degradation or discoloration on the mid drivers but 99.9 percent of the time, I leave the grille covers in place. I get morning sun in the summer months but ...
Turntable/Arm/Cart for Classic Rock; $1500 budget For classic rock I would be thinking along the lines of the Linn LP12, old Thorens TD160 or 124, maybe even the Technics SL1200 with with a moving magnet cartridge. You should be able to purchase for way under 1500.00 and have some money left for ...
Tube preamp for techno and other bass-heavy music? What's your budget? My VAC tubed preamp has excellent low bass extension 8500.00 new and 4300.00 used, my Manley Shrimp 1800.00 new, has a full punchy bass but does not have the weight or extension of the VAC. I had an Audio Research LS15 which wa...
diffuser panels made more simple? Depending on skill level, most of the DIY acoustic projects I have seen, look exactly like what they are. Take a look at www.acousticalsolutions.com for the alpha-sorb panel which does not have the wild diffusor look. GIK has some low priced diffu...
Retubing my McIntosh MC2102 Winged C's are my choice also. I prefer them over Sovtek, JJ, Shuguang, and VAC original tubes. I purchased two sets from www.tubesandmore.com. One regular set, and one set that had been cryoed and burned in. I didn't perform a direct comparison b...
Want to Blow Up My Stereo How is it possible to reverse the polarity of the interconnects from the CDP to the Pre? You should only be able to swap channels, not polarity, and if swapping channels did indeed move the imbalance to the other channel there must be a problem wi...
SS bias pot tweaks? Without specific instructions and a quality DVOM to make accurate measurements makes for a foolhardy endeavor. Turning screws and tuning by ear = bad idea. I have done bias adjustment on Classe Dr-8's. The measurement for that amp was a range of 7...
Moby concert and ear damage? I don't think the frequency has to be that low, just loud. Witness the subwoofed car with the wump wump sound going down the street. Over exposure to average levels like that are bound to cause some hearing loss. I've had peaks of over 100 db at h...

Bass reinforcement for very large room I have my secondary system in a small room similar to yours and I know exactly the effect you are talking about with the bass pressure in the room. I love that little system. It is my warm cozy winter room. I don't believe you would be able to ach...
One off my Audiopax 88s has gone up in smoke. You should have bought a single ended amp on A-Gon for a back-up. There is no way I would go that long with no tunes. I have a backup for everything. Sorry to hear of your poor service experience with Audiopax. |
