Tweaks #1 I tried shorting pins and found no appreciable change. Make sure if you try this, not to insert said pin into an output jack. #2 Vibrapods made some difference but not huge and not always an improvement. Audio points and Still points are the re...
Tube Nube questions I agree with newbee within an hour. My figure is 25 hours for a set of KT88's.
Uses for "tape-out" on a preamp I currently use it to connect to my headphone amplifier. I have used it in the past to insert signal processors such as the Rives PARC or Copland DRC205.
Heavy Speakers with Spikes on a Concrete Floor My ESP Bodhran SE speakers are designed to be spiked to a concrete floor. The supplied spikes are a combination brass tip with a phenolic base. I thought these spikes might have been a compromise so I tried a set of solid brass Audio Points and di...
Speaker audition: a novice’s journey ESP speakers match your preferences. I have the Bodhran SE and the soundstage and imaging are naturally superb. They project a lot of energy into the room, which in my case required some acoustic applications but the time and money were well spent...
component placement Check and see how much Mapleshade would charge for taller uprights and a shelf. Would you have a problem making the whole rack a bit taller?
component placement I really like the Mapleshade racks. They sound and look great plus the infinite adjustability of the shelves. You just need to buy another shelf. Your tube preamp doesn't require anywhere close to the room you have devoted to it. My VAC preamp doe...
Tube balanced preamp for class D amp? VAC Renaissance and Cary SLP05 come to mind. I own the VAC and it is a joy to listen to and operate.
No preamp 'Balance' control? I don't use the one in my secondary system and don't miss the balance control in my main system. I really don't know why such a device would be necessary if the system is properly setup. I suppose there may be installations where symmetry or other...
Rack Recommendation for VK-600 How about the Mapleshade racks? The shelves are infinitely adustable and you can order shelves up to 4 inches thick. They will custom build if you want but I think the big Samson rack should be fine for your VK-600. These are on my upgrade list.
Most beneficial change . The size of the room is an unfortunate set of dimensions. Do you have a decent set of headphones to listen to the electronics and take the speaker/room interface out of the equation? If you are unmoved listening with the phones, then you should ad...
The Richard Clark "all amps sounds the same" test And all cars drive the same, all toilet paper wipes the same, all wine tastes the same. If you can't hear/feel a difference, it doesn't bother me. Your test is a total waste of time IMO.
Transmission line speakers Acoustic Zen Crescendo was the bass champ at RMAF 07. I think the smaller model is transmission line also.
"upgrade" from Cary SLI 80 F1 edition You need to list what speakers you are using (specs if they are little known brand), room size, and music you like including how loud you would like to be able to play the system. Then somebody would be able to offer an informed opinion.
Does Wilson Sophia Sound good at low volumes? I can't comment on the Wilsons but my N802's sound just fine at low volume levels (70db range). I would get rid of the solid state amps and switch to a good tubed amp. The upper bass and lower mids will become fuller allowing for a better balance ... |
