Bi-amping mark-Daniel Maximus: Mind-blowing
I heard the M&D speakers locally and was very impressed with them. The room was very boomy and the electronics were kind of mid-fi, but nonetheless, I could tell that there was something special about the speakers performance. They are very pr...
Replace the Supratek Chardonnay with Accuphase?
One thing's for sure -- the sound will be totally different, and you may like some things betters and others not as much! Maybe you just need a different tube preamp if the Chardonnay has things you don't like about it...I personally like the conc...
Unplugging / replugging Anti Cables Changes things
If you've changed ANYTHING else, I'd look there first... If you haven't changed anything else, two possibilities exist: 1) You're imagining the change in sound, or 2) The performance of one of the components in your audio chain is deteriorating. I...
Unplugging / replugging Anti Cables Changes things
When you say you "moved the amp 6-inches sideways to make some room," does that mean you put some other component right next to the amp? If so, that could be your problem.I have some Anti-Cables and have plugged and unplugged them a bunch of times...
a Power vs Volume Question
172dB??? Wouldn't that cause incontinence, impotence, deafness, blindness, and sudden death? WOW, now that's really something to shoot for!
Class-D amps - a different re view
Oh great... another slam the Class-D amps thread. How original! My view is that a lot of audiophiles just don't want to believe that class-D amps can compete with and oft-times outperform the best conventional ss and tube amps available. This is the...
Hum- help needed
If you changed the "bad humming" amp to a different circuit and it was quiet then I would suspect that the outlet you are using for your stereo may not be properly grounded or may be wired improperly. Any electronics store should sell a simple out...
Haven't used my analog rig for months......
There shouldn't be any issues. You might want to remove the belt while it's not being used, but that's about it. I doubt that the cartridge will be bothered.
Where to start with vinyl
Stringreen, you're so wrong it's pathetic. The better MC phono preamps are quite quiet and hum-free -- just as much so as a MM phono stage. So now folks can take advantage of all the extra detail and transient speed provided by today's better MC c...
Where to start with vinyl
Sgunther, just to add to my earlier post, if you need to skimp anywhere, I'd skimp on the cartridge... You could get very good results using a Benz Glider or Ace (low output preferred) if you don't want to spring for the Reference 3. That would ge...
Where to start with vinyl
I asked myself that same question, and it turned out that a Michell Tecnodec with a Rega RB250 arm and tecnomods (plus Incognito wiring) does the trick nicely. I'm using the Benz-Micro Reference 3 low-output MC cartridge in that system, which has ...
Upgrading from NAD 521bee--need soundstage
Hi Reubent,I have the Oppo 970HD. I gave it to my son to use in his system and he is mainly concerned with its video performance, which is quite good.I don't doubt that you are getting excellent performance from your modded unit and the Oppo's abi...
Upgrading from NAD 521bee--need soundstage
I have a stock Oppo and I've got to say that the build quality is awful -- cheesey, flimsy drawer and the control buttons on my unit don't work half the time when I press them. The remote usually works though and it gets a very nice picture. I'm s...
Upgrading from NAD 521bee--need soundstage
Contrary to Mechan's views, I own a Rega Apollo and can tell you that it throws a huge, precise, and well-focused soundstage. Plus, it has very good extension at the frequency extremes and sounds quite dynamic. It's a fantastic bang-for-the-buck p...
are any of your friends audiophiles?
Albert,Many thanks for your thoughts and tips. They are appreciated and you may be right... After all, Tucson's population is fast nearing the million mark, so there ought to be a few more audiophiles and music lovers somewhere around here. And I ...
