Is vinyl still a "perfect" source?
I've come upon an interesting finding of late... It seems that when I play my vinyl through my VMPS RM30 speakers using the digital NuForce Reference 9SE amps that I get noticeably tighter, faster, and more articulate bass than I do from my digita...
hafler 100, 101, 110
I think the DH-110 is the one to go for. It has two phono inputs and some other useful features. Plus, it sounds pretty good.I believe I tried the DH-101 (owned one for a short time) back in the day and didn't think it sounded very good despite th...
Can you correct nulls with acoustic treatments.
Possibly putting a diffuser behind each speaker could help since you're dealing with cancellations from the rear output waves colliding with that of the front wave.I had a room similar to yours and it was kind of tough finding the best speaker pos...
Can you correct nulls with acoustic treatments.
The room dimensions and speaker positioning are going to dictate the peaks and dips more than anything. Such large nulls would be difficult to treat.I suggest you move the speakers around the room if possible; maybe to the adjacent wall or even fi...
Need advice for full range speaker with bottom end
The Eros definitely did not go into the 20Hz's with any kind of weight or authority when I had them...Now I have the VMPS RM30's which seem more potent in the low bass than the Eros (regardless of the Eros published specs, which are very optimisti...
Is HDCD dead?
Don't need it, don't want it, don't look for it, frankly it has no significance for me, and yes, I have tried it on a resolving system...
Nuforce 9.02 + Eggleston speakers
The Reference 9SE's are NuForce's best sounding amps (most articulate, extended bass and most detail and focus). I'd go for those as long as the Andra's are at least 86dB/watt sensitive. Remove the sound-degrading speaker output capacitors when yo...
Is there any stat speaker to stick on the wall?
Magnepan has their MMG-W model for wall mounting. It's a planar magnetic rather than an electrostat, but it might do what you want...
Great Speakers - More is More?
CW, yes, I think the problem of having multiple tweeters at different points on the horizontal axis can be problematic and lead to time smear distortions and complicated reflective patterns. I think that's why vertical arrays are generally more su...
Great Speakers - More is More?
I guess if your ceiling was high enough for stacked MG-20's it could work if you built a custom frame to hold the panels. Although I don't know how much better that would work than a single pair... you'd have more power handling and greater dynami...
Good tube pre amp for a mostly digital system
Hi Maria.I guess I can "clue you in to the fact" that both Audio Research and BAT make very good balanced tube preamps that should work well in your system...
Nuforce with Stillpoints ERS fabric
Jdodmead,I had the same problem with a pair of early vintage NuForce Reference 8 amps that caused noise in my phono stage. In fact I ended up selling that phono stage thinking it had some issues, but now I realize that it was the RFI from the NuFo...
Stupid question.....
A) You won't get any more than 125 Watts per channel that way. The two channels will not add together like you're thinking. B) Yes, it could damage the amps... Definitely a bad idea!
Is there an audible difference using peripherals
There are times when a system can definitely benefit from using a decent EQ. But my systems are so dynamic without an expander that I'd never use one of those; and I'd probably nix that Impulse noise reduction unit as well. I'd rather live with oc...
Help CDP over vinyl upgrade advice please
My stock Rega Apollo (sorry -- top loader) destroys my BIX turntable with stock Rega RB250 arm. It's set up perfectly, but it can't come close to the dynamics and range I get from the Apollo. And, of course, my Monarchy M24 DAC beats the BIX/REGA ...
