Parts Connection - Now where do I find parts? On a related note...I've also been waiting for a reply from Percy Audio for a few weeks, so...Can anyone tell me who else carries the Nude Vishay resisitors?? I'm looking for two 1/2 watt (or so) in the 1000 Ohm range for cartridge loading (phono ...
Has anyone heard the Joule Electra Stargates? I think Merlin recommended the Cardas Golden Cross or Golden Reference because of the internal wiring, but it also helped to flesh out the low end on the older VSM-SE design. The VSM-M design does that on it's own, so the "M" version would probabl...
TUNERS..anyone? Hi David,What they said...go with a vintage tuner (probably analog). They're relatively cheap and very good. I have a Luxman T-110 and a Revox B-260S...both are amazing (I also like an old, late 80s HK Citation tuner that I have too). You're tuner...
Help with NEW MC cartridge putchase I agree with the above...40dB isn't much gain. Go with a high output like the Benz Glider (HO version) or something similar.
Inexpensive Amp and Speakers If I were you, I'd check out so called "vintage" receivers from the late 70s (or early, early 80s)...you know...the giant silver things from Yamaha, Pioneer, or Luxman. I think that would be your best bet for $150 (some of the nice ones cost close...
help please. i need opinions of high output carts I've never heard a Grado, but the Benz Gliders come in three different output voltages...you might want to check them out.
Parts Connection - Now where do I find parts? I'm not exactly sure what parts the Parts Connections sold but you could try:www.angela.com (Angela Instruments)www.percyaudio.com (Michael Percy)
Preamp mods/Why capacitors? They do wear out over time (some more than others), and yes...many people believe that some capacitors sound much better (or more transparent) than others (the same goes for resisitors, wire, and other parts too). Auricap, Hovland, and Black Gate ...
Suitable pre-phono for Benz cart I used my Glider with a Black Cube and an Audiomat Phono-1...both worked great. The Black Cube has internal switches to change settings and the Audiomat adjusts itself automatically.
Phono preamp I'm not sure, but I bet it's just as good or better. They took their phono pres seriosuly in those days because it was the main source for most people. I think you'd probably have to spend a lot more than $100-$300 for a better one.
CDR playback in DVD player Pioneer's DVD players (expensive and cheap) play CD-R and CDRW discs.
DVD/CD suggestions I'm not familiar with the CAL sound, but the Elite Pioneer DV-05, DV-09, DV-38(?), and DV-47 are all supposed to be pretty nice sounding players in their stock version. I own the DV-05, and I've seen them often for $300-$400 used. THe DV-09 is eve...
Buggtussel speakers: a "sleeper" hi- end spker? You gotta love a speaker company that chooses to name their product after a fictitious town from the Clampett family's hillbilly past. I've never heard them, but they get my vote. :-)
Cardas spkr. cables: Quad vs. Cross vs. Golden Cr I went from some regular 12g Vampire Wire to the Quad, and eventually upgraded to a used pair of Golden Cross. Each step was a noticable, worthwhile improvement. I'd hold out for the Golden Cross, but they are quite a bit more expensive than the o...
Speaker suggestions wanted Merlin VSMs would probably work fine, but I'm not sure if you could find them that cheap. |
