Help please?
You may want to relist this question and put the product name in the title...more owners or previous owners may look at it that way.
Audiophile Pressing?
Hey Fatparrot,I don't have any experience with that Queen album, but it's very possible that a lot of that compression is actually on the master tape...they may have recorded or mixed with compression. It's not at all uncommon with rock records.
Decent DVD Player
I don't know about complementing the above, but the Pioneer players are good...especially the Elite level players. Some other companies make great players too. What price range are you talking about?
Audiophile Pressing?
I've heard that some of the EMI vinyl audiophile pressings aren't all that great, and many people seem to think that most Simply Vinyl releases are not any better than a mass market release.
Bookshelf Speakers For 350 Or Less?? new & used
As of right now I think I'm leaning towards the Axiom 3MTi, the B&W 302/303, or the Sound Dynamics RT-3. I've also owned several pairs of Mission speakers, so I'm fond of those too. I'm not sure if she's going to want to deal with ordering sev...
Bookshelf Speakers For 350 Or Less?? new & used
Thanks for all of your suggestions. Please keep them coming. I couldn't find many threads that focused on this price range. ANy experiences with PSB, Paradigm, or Axiom? I've read great things about the Axiom MT3i(?) for $275 from www.axiomaudio.com.
The best new music is by a guy who is 60.
Yeah...it is a great album, but I wouldn't say that he's reinvented himself. He has certainly dabbled in all of these styles in the past. It is a great album though, and he is one of the few artists that manages to put out material decade after de...
unamplified orchestras or bands?
Hi Marakanetz,I suppose, as mentioned above, some engineers probably mic an orchestra that way, but many of the best classical recordings are very very simple...one to three mics...that's it. The band practices (with the conductor) to make sure th...
Audiophile beginner with a question...
"No money" has a good point...what is your budget for these things? The above recommendations are good, but I know what my finances were like in college, and I barely had the cash for a pizza...let alone a used Rega Planet or Linn Classic.
Inexpensive Pre with headphone jack recommendation
AVA makes preamps and sells them direct...they have SS, and tube hybrid designs...new for less than $1000 (factory direct).I've never heard them, but people seem to like them...they have a 30 day guarantee...and they have headphone amps built in.I...
Are there any MFSL bootleg copies around?
Try to shop around as much as possible. Many of the MFSL prices on this site and E-Bay are just ridiculous and,in most cases, not worth the money or realistic. I paid something like $10 for my MFSL DSOTM LP and $10-$15 for the CD...both used. Both...
Sound Absorbing Material
Our band has Auralex(sp?) foam in our practice room and it works great. There are several companies that make similar foams, but I doubt you'd like the look of it in your house. I'm sure someone must make nicer looking stuff for home use. There ar...
New to 'hi-end,' looking for budget CDP
I've used older Denon 2560 and a Revox B226 with success. Both sound good on their own and both made good transports. I usually see the Revox units selling for $200 to $600 and the Denon is probably in the same range.I've also heard great things a...
Is there a monitor speakers with just one driver?
Norh way have a one driver model (www.norh.com), but I don't recall seeing any made by anyone else...nothing hi-end anyway.
Radiohead read on
I agree that they are pretty great and they keep changing and evolving...all good. As far as being truly inventive though...if you REALLY believe that, you need to buy more albums. Yes...they're inventive, but there's very little on Kid-A or Amnes...
