Have you ever broken the needle? I broke the needle off my Glider once, but had it re-tipped for 50% of retail. It wasn't a happy moment, but I am glad it was repairable. I think the WB cartridges are also re-tippable, because they're cartridges are modified Benz cartridges, aren...
Anyone here tried Elco Cables I'm using the Elco digital cable (the nicer model) and it sounds pretty great. I've compared it directly to the Cardas Lightning 15 and Acoustic Zen MC2. The Acoustic Zen is a little more laid back sounding than the others, but the Elco has just a...
Are all blank CDR'S created equal ??? I don't know if there is a sound difference, but there is certainly a quality difference based on the manufacturer (which is not the same as the brand name). Search the archives. This topic has come up before and there is a web address for a site ...
shipping speakers I also recommend BAX Global (air or ground), but the above poster is correct...they no longer pick up from residential addresses. If the speakers are shipping from a business (any business), you'll be fine.
set amps with merlin vsm??? enough power Yeah...you should definitely talk (or e-mail) to Bobby at Merlin. It may work fine in a small room, or nearfield position, but loud volumes may not be possible.
Digital "Crispies" and the ART di/o A 1981 digital recording is an early digital recording...that may be the problem. The DIO may be passing along more info, which may include more low level info, but it may also include flaws in the recording or engineering. It's hard to say withou...
Cardas GoldenCross vs. NBS Statement or Monitor 0? Your system may be neutral overall, but I can pretty much guarantee you that the Golden Cross are warmer and smoother than neutral. I've compared them to Coincident, regular Cardas Cross, Z-Cable, JPS SUperconductors, etc. and the Cardas Golden Cr...
What is the best tube integrated amp with remote I've never heard either, but the French companies Audiomat and Kora both have tube integrated models (I think).
"PUZZ JAZZLE" I looked up that title on www.allmusic.com and it turned up a bunch of responses for a song called "Hernando's Hideaway". Unfortunately, it looks like it was a standard that was covered by a bunch of different artists. Check it out and see if you ...
European -vs- US high-end I think the big gap between US and European tastes lies in the mid-fi to low-end range. It seems that there are many more Euopreans (especially British) people that want good sounding consumer gear. It's very obvious when you check out a British H...
Is there any such thing as a high end receiver? I don't know if an older receiver is going to be vetoed because of it's age, look, or lack of remote, but I'd recommend a nice Luxman, Yamaha, Pioneer, Onkyo, Marantz, etc. from the late 70s or very early 80s (before all of those companies started...
great deals on jazz and blues I saw those last week, but I wasn't sure how well they were mastered (their were no technical remarks on the outside of the package). So they sound good, eh?
what do you think off the older Revox equip. thank As far as I've experienced, they did everything well. Excellent tape decks (based on their reel to reel technology), excellent tuners, great CD players (that still sound good...even if they are 12-15 years old), and good amps and integrated amps t...
Pros and Cons of Ribbons If they're anything like ribbon microphones, they're probably a little more fragile and may require more gentle handling (like not turning your amp up to 11?).
Best speakers in 2k-3k price point Used Merlin VSM-SE's (or VSM-M if you can find a pair). They work great with tubes, have an excellent tweeter (the Dynaudio Esotar), and Bobby at Merlin highly recommends them with Rogue gear. He has done at least one electronics show using Rogue ... |
