Need newbie explanation on grounding components.
Hi Darryl,People on this site have done all of the above, so don't feel bad about being confused. Some people have completely designed and installed a dedicated power line for their audio system, so they arranged for a seperate ground at the same ...
Phono Amp Recommendations
Lehmann Black Cubes are a pretty good deal (especially used). They're versatile, small, and they sound very good too.
I'm still working to love digital, are you?
Hey Eric...most of all that you love about analog *should* be present in hi-res digital (if they ever get their act together). You're missing all of the details that 16 bit audio just can't hold. Some info has to go when the music is transferred t...
Why buy older digital gear?
Digital technology may have advanced as far as DAC chips go, but parts are still parts, and good parts and good design are still better than cheaper parts and a price point-compromised design. I'm sure many of the new sub $1000 players are great, ...
What after the old CD player? CDP, SACD or DVD-a?
If you don't have money to burn right now, I'd hold off for another year or three and wait for universal players to become standard (and improved by the audiophile manufacturers, not the large corporate manufacturers). They exist now, but there ar...
Cables "Burn In"
I wasn't all that sure if the audio interconnect burn-in thing was my imagination or not, but I'm convinved after buying a new Monster M2000 S-Video cable and watching a few DVDs. When I first hooked it up the picture was pretty bad...extrememly g...
wattage difference between SS and Tube
I'm not sure how efficient your Thiels are (I don't think THiels are usually all that efficient), and efficiency makes all the difference. For some speakers, 50watts is two or three times more than they could ever use...for others, it's only 1/10t...
Down right BEST CDP for the money???
Since you are a Cary fan, you should check into their players. They have current models in the $3000 and $5500 range (both very well recieved), and I believe they're supposed to introduce a $1500-ish model any day now. As far as "for the money" go...
Lower gain in left channel.
Does it happen at all volume levels, or is it only noticeable at very soft levels?? If it only happens at low levels, it could just be the natural effect of the volume control not being able to match precisely...that's natural and it happens with ...
Any experience with Rick Schultz SACD mods?
I completely agree with Sean...Ric is very honest and he loves what he does. If he was in this business for money, he'd be very rich by now. Instead he follows his inspiration and he does what he enjoys. He is sincerely thrilled by the recent adva...
Have you heard the Aria amps by Mike Elliott?
Hi Otto,Thanks for the tip on the SA-11...I've heard they're amazing. I thought about that originally, but they're not easy to find and I thought all of the tubes would be kinda expensive (and a headache). I had Mike do all of his modifications on...
B&W CDM9NT, or Misson 753f, or CSW T300?
I think you should probably go with the Missions 753f's. I owned a pair of the previous 753's and I loved them (I since gave them to my brother). The "f" version is supposed to be even better with the silk dome tweeter. They really are great speak...
Best DVD on a budget
If you want to spend $300, I highly recommend buying a used Pioneer DV-05 on this site (an Elite model with an original retail of $1000 that sold for $700ish). They're great DVD players and pretty good CD players. If you prefer to spend less, you ...
Have you heard the Aria amps by Mike Elliott?
Hi Tacs. Yeah, I completely agree with you...I think I'm done as far as my amp, preamp, and speakers go. I know those are famous audiophile last words, but I really do love all three. I'm dealing with some sort of a ground loop and digital formats...
Pioneer DV 37 Question
I have a Pioneer DV-05 (the previous model) and it makes a pretty good CD player. I've never compared it to the above two. I think it would hold it's own, but I'm sure they all sound a little different. If you're looking for CD only you might want...
