Help with budget DVD/CD player Hi Chris,I agree...those Pioneer models are really tough to beat for the price. The have good Burr/Brown DAC chips in them...they're some of the few players that pass a true 24/96 signal...they have put out great pictures...and like Charlie mentio...
Stones and Beatles MFSL CD's? Yeah...because they're crooks, and MFSL happens to be out of business, so there's no company left to sue them for copyright infringements. That's my guess.
EVS Millenium DAC 2 ? I have used mine with my Pioneer DV-05 and it was definitely an improvement over the internal converter. They're great DACs.
Stones and Beatles MFSL CD's? There are a bunch of MFSL BEatles CDs being sold now, but as far as I know all are frauds. They may be professionally manufactured, but I am postive that none are made from the original master tapes. They are more than likely nothing more than dig...
Phono stage suggestions? I've used the Lehmann Black Cube and the Audiomat Phono-1...both are excellent. I replaced the Black Cube with the Audiomat, so I prefer that over the cube...more detailed and musical, but a completely different feel from the cube. I think the Bla...
seeking info from MFSL experts When you say "cover"...are you referring to the album jacket? If the jacket is all white (no graphics), then you may have purchased a test pressing. Ideally...that's a good thing. It may have been a pressing made before the thousands of copies wer...
Huge difference in sound : Spikes vs. Vibrapods Low frequencies are felt more than heard. I always took "boomy" to mean unnatural bass...bass that seemed to be artificially accented by the speaker design or the room. Feeling the bass is a great thing if it's natural...that's the way it should b...
What's better than HT Platinum Digital cable? Hi Hockey,I felt the same way that you did, but I compared three cables and found drastic differences (as drastic as any cable change, anyway). I found an Apogee Wyde-Eye to sound much better and more musical than a Better Cables video/digital cab...
Who build's Hybrid Integrated's wth Remote?? Joule Electra makes the VAMP, but I'm not sure if it's available with remote, or not.
Looking for Tuner/Preamp combo I have a Harmon Kardon Citation preamp and tuner (the model numbers are 21, 23, or 25...I forget which and I'm at work). The preamp is remote controlled and has a ton of useful features. It's not the MOST transparent (compared to my Pass), but it ...
Interconnect question, balanced and single ended? Well the two are different connections are different internally, as well as externally. You can buy an adapter to switch from one to the other, but I've had mixed results with that method (as far as recording equipment goes...I've never tried it w...
Am i going crazy Yeah...like Bluenose said, go with your impressions. Don't be too surprised about the vintage amp either. Many of those old amps are built much much better than any of the newer amps in the same price range. Manufacturing went way down hill in the...
Cartridge Help with LP-12/Ekos I'm pretty sure our local Linn Dealer (Avant Garde in Chicago) sells the Linn cartridges as well as Dynavector, Grado, and Benz-Micro (the Benz are MC). I assume all must work well, because they don't sell any other turntables that I'm aware of.
Best CHEAP floorstanders? I also recommend buying used, and I'll third the Meadowlark Kestrel recommendation. I also highly recommend checking out Mission 752 or 753 speakers. They usually sell in that range used, and they're VERY underappreciated in this country.
What is Super Bit Mapping The above link probably explains it better than I can, but it's Sony's patented dithering process to go from 24 or 20 bits down to the 16/44.1 redbook CD standard. Their goal is to capture more than 16 bits of sound in the 16-bit format. They clai... |
