DVD player as the best transport to use with DAC? I'm pretty sure the DVD as transport recommendation applies to Bel Canto's particular design (used with toslink cable). DVD players don't make bad transports, but I prefer my old CDP's to my Pioneer DV-05 (used with my EVS Millenium DAC2).
Phase inverting preamps Oops!!! Sorry about that! :-)I was serious about the above though...I had all of my components hooked up correctly, but my left and right chanels were reversed when I played the HFNRR test record. It was all of my sources, so the problem has to be...
A general mix/match SS/Tube question. You could buy the above AI as mentioned, but they also have excellent phono stages...that means you wouldn't need the Black Cube if you bought one with a phono stage (though you have to choose MM or MC...they don't offer both).I'd also highly reco...
Whats the deal with CD players? Hi Perkadin,After reading your second post I think I have an answer for you. The Pioneer DV-333 (and 444?? I forget the model number, but one is regular and one is progressive scan) cost about $160-$200. Their video quality is supposed to be good,...
Phase inverting preamps Hi Killerpiglet...I won't bet my life on this, but I think that what you're talking about (inverting push/pull) is signal polarity, which isn't the same thing as phase inversion.
Phase inverting preamps I don't get it either, but I know someone here will have the answer for you. I've read an explanation before, but I forgot what it was. I vaguely remember someone saying that it was a design choice. I don't think it's a cost saving issue as much a...
Confused about DVD-A I'm sure the above players sound great and very smooth, BUT...I really don't see how they could *technically* sound as good as a well done SACD or DVD-A disc played on an equally well built SACD or DVD-A machine. I don't think that's physically po...
Pass Labs or Audio Research Solid State Amplifiers The Pass Aleph series amps are very detailed and direct, but the affordable models are only 30 or 50 wpc. They do have bigger Aleph models and they have the newer X-series, but they start getting more expensive. I would definitely recommmend liste...
need help - Cd players The Norh comes from the same Thai manufacturer as the CAL players and is supposed to be the same transport and DAC as the Delta models. It adds a tube to the circuit which could be quite nice. I don't know how it compares to the Tjoeb or Heart, an...
Phase inverting preamps If the preamp is phase inverting it is merely switching the right and left chanels, so all you have to do to correct that is switch them back again. There are several places where you can do that...you can reverse all of the individual component h...
Whats the deal with CD players? I agree with Buckingham...it's probably your system. That's not necessarily a bad thing...if you like the sound, then enjoy. I do think that the difference in CD players isn't always as huge as some people make it seem, but it can be as different ...
Cartridge Selection? Help If you're leaning towards the Crown Jewel, you may want to check out the Shelter cartridges out of Japan. I believe that it was dicovered that the Crown Jewels were nothing but Shelters with a nice paint job (and an additional $2000 on the price t...
A general mix/match SS/Tube question. No problem that I can see...it just depends on the sound that you prefer. The phono stage will still be playing through the tubes in the Blue Circle, so you'll still get some of that tube sound. I've never heard the Monolithic, but the Black Cube ...
What's more important speakers or amplification? Is the Sony really awful as an amp, or is it okay?? I don't have any advice on particular speaker brands for home theater use, but I think you'd notice a $3200 speaker upgrade much more than a new amp & $1600 speaker upgrade...assuming that th...
Is it just me or has A-gon become a high dollar I've found the asking prices for some of the Audiophile recordings to be quite funny...especially most of the MFSL stuff. I really hope that those people aren't getting $200 plus for an outdated CD. It's not like most of them are really all that r... |
