Di I really need to clean my LP's? I have experienced the stylus breaking off - from my very costly cartridge - maybe due to too poor cleaning. I don’t want a repeat. So what do I do? I mainly have a dry cleaning regime. If the record seems dirty, it goes into a manual wash. All ...
Best progressive rock album side Another worthy European (Netherland) contender: Golden Earring: Eight Miles High. Maybe Procol Harum, on Home, isn't quite prog. Like many bands they tried to sell records - become more commercial. But often, it did not hurt. Same thing with Ste...
Best progressive rock album side Yes, great thread, thanks to all. +1 Samla mammas manna. For early swedish prog, check out also, Hansson och Karlsson. Nationalteatern. Hoola Bandoola band. Part-prog, at least. The best prog band in the 70s in the Nordic region was perhaps Wigw...
Most Realistic Recordings A dilemma appears - what is meant by "realistic"? The best possible sound from the band or artist? Or what we would actually hear, at a concert? Yes thank you, both - studio as well as live albums? That’s my view. But my idea of "realistic" goes t...
Most Realistic Recordings Yes, thanks for many good suggestions in this thread! manogolf - re: Led Zeppelin - "How The West Was Won". I understand what you mean by ’live’ sound. But in my rig it doesn’t translate to ’good’ sound. I compared Immigration song from the 2018 ...
How much air does my preamp need? I have the same problem with my Einstein The tube preamp. I installed a computer fan behind the preamp, and tuned it so it runs without noise. It reduces the heat. But I also - unlike before - turn the preamp off when not in use.
Desktop single-driver speakers? Case in point, listening to the Blow-up film soundtrack, Jane's theme. What more could I want. I am going to shut my mouth, unless others chime in. I have no affiliations to Arche whatever, and can only report back, as one satisfied listener, hap...
TEAC UD-701 vs NT-505 vs ? Anyone else, testing the NT-505 headphone output?
TEAC UD-701 vs NT-505 vs ? Sorry for spelling error - it should be Audiotailor Jade.
TEAC UD-701 vs NT-505 vs ? Source and setup for my testing Qobuz digital - through NT-505 - from the NT direct (headphone output) - compared to the Jade headphone output. The Jade is connected from Teac, first to the preamp with balanced cable and then, single ended cable...
TEAC UD-701 vs NT-505 vs ? Now testing the Teac NT-505 headphone output, versus the output from my dedicated headphone amp, Audiotail Jade OTL. I am surprised by the diffence. Yes, the 505 is quite good, acceptable. But Jade is much better. Regarding musicality, authority...
Turn off or leave on? My experience - I could leave my solid state amps on, or on standby, with no problems (like the Krell FPB600) over several years of use. My Atma-sphere MA1 tube amps are another matter - I turn them off, after use, to preserve tube life. My Io pho...
TEAC UD-701 vs NT-505 vs ? My experience after a year’s use is similar to big_greg’s: the NT-505 with AKM chip is a bit on the warm and polite side. But more neutral and less polite, more lively, after extended break-in. Glassy and hard? Well yes, sometimes, I hear some o...
Isolation Advice Needed I was able to hammer two vertical beams into place in the basement so they support the wood floor in our living / listening room, beneath the rack and speakers. Result: we can jump in front the player without the cartridge skipping, and have no pr...
Desktop single-driver speakers? The Arche FR2 speakers have now mellowed, with more break-in, and are perfectly capable of "pleasant subdued background music" as well as more in-depth listening experiences. I am impressed with these speakers. I am also grateful for the support f... |
