I2s DSD
I have recorded my best LPs to DSD for many years, with the Tascam DA-3000 as the best recorder, so far. I mainly listen to these recordings on holiday, travel etc, played back by a little DAP (Fiio x3ii). I like it, with vinyl clicks and all, but...
Class A amplifier alternative?
Hi Huy I invested in class a solid state for many years, but became more satisfied with tube amps, later. If you can afford them, used, the Atma-sphere ma1 monoblocs would probably get you there. Maybe, even, their 60 amp, if your speakers are e...
I2s DSD
Is it the case that patent rights etc are still hindering development and employment of DSD? If so, very sad. We are soon in 2022.
If a " system " cannot do this, I move on........
+1 from me too. Engagement - exactly. When a song moves me to tears or smiles I know I am there. The less processing the better. Never heard Adele live, but I heard Lizz Wright, somewhat in the same vein, worth checking out. I am happy with a pur...
Desktop single-driver speakers?
I have ordered the Arche audio desktop system, FR2 speakers plus amp. We’ll see. I am well aware that it will be a limited design but I am interested nevertheless. For now, I want to notice the importance of stands and positioning, for desktop spe...
Desktop single-driver speakers?
Thanks to @mesch and others. I will try to check out all your good suggestions, that are obviously more informed than what you get googling "best desktop speakers" and the like. I may buy the FR2 plus their matching amp. Just to know how it sounds...
Is your now then?
Then #1 – late 60s, 70s. Revox A77 reel to reel, Revox amp, Thorens TT, Dynaco and then Bose 901 speakers. Formative period. Looking back? Sometimes yes. But mainly nostalgic, such a sense of freedom back then, progressive and engaging music - no...
Who is ditching their shiny disc spinners?
I have some CDs I don't sell, due to good sound (Like Dr John plays the Duke) or if they are unavailable or special. Also, my SACDs, that I occasionally play on an Oppo player. But mostly, I play from CDs copied to my hard disk. I have had few pro...
Is lack of xlr connects on preamp ok if streaming?
I would use xlr if possible, especially if the manufacturer says so. Maybe not a big deal - it depends - but in my experience, balanced usually sounds better.
So damn hard deciding which tube preamp to buy!
I agree. It is hard. What I did, was to start from my general experience of preamps and amps. Products I know. Do I like tubes better than solid state? Yes. Do I like OTL? Yes. Should it be truly balanced? Yes. And so on. Plus, a good match both w...
Lyra Atlas experiences
I have not heard the Lambda versions of the Atlas (or other Lambda versions of the Lyra models). What I know, is that the standard Atlas that I got from Lyra in 2018, after an accident with the 2013 model I had before, sounds great, and works perf...
Desktop single-driver speakers?
@dekay - I contacted the Ebay Arche Fr2 seller, but got no answer. Maybe not operative? I wonder if anyone on Audiogon has tried the speakers. One thing that makes me hesitate, is that one of the reviewers wrote that they need quite a bit of volum...
New set up in asymmetrical room - speaker placement etc
@millercarbon wrote "Need a different room layout for different listening levels? Fascinating." Um, yes, I am dreaming about a mansion with a 75 db listening room, a 85 db room, and then a maxed-out 95 db huge room... : - )Just joking. I am not in...
New set up in asymmetrical room - speaker placement etc
I am not sure - what means "fascinating"...I do believe that volume plays a main role, yes. And in the need for "system within a system" amp - speakers - room integration. Reflection points will always be present in a room, but their importance wi...
