Turn down the Volume!
I agree - avoid ambient and background noise - but NOT the ambient sound in the recording, which is there for a reason, like a band playing *together* and not each player on their own, the "good ambience" which is often pro-tooled away in modern r...
Turn down the Volume!
I have a horn system. It plays better at low volume than the s-state system I had before. Still, it sounds better with some more volume. I would like it to sound great even lower. But I think this is difficult to achieve.
Analog vs. digital
ghdprentice - you are a bit hasty declaring that this is "completely dependent on your components". It depends on the analog and digital formats too. Some of us hear problems with digital formats compared to analog, even if there are hassles the...
WallySkater and Reference.
miljostyn - I hope you like the MA-2’s. I have MA-1s (3.2) that are a joy every day. I recently realized (once more) how much a good amp means for the sound, connecting some bookshelf and desktop speakers to the MA-1s. The speakers all rose to the...
Horns
To get the best horn speaker sound you need matching amps. I use Atma-Sphere MA1 monoblocs, to the Audiokinesis Dream makers. These speakers are designed for tube amps. This match sounds way better than other speakers / amps I tried before.
Horns
You might try Audiokinesis speakers. I have their big Dream makers, sounding fine.
Opportunity to buy Demo Magico M2?
I would test them in my room before final buying. This is the final test - your room and your system. Can be surprising. I would give them room to breathe, good distance from walls, adjust toe-in, and go from there.
Turned back into a music lover
The other day, a metaphor came into my mind. I enjoy this as much as a good TV film. Or more. Listening to analog LPs in my living room. 10cc Sheet music. I like films. For enterainment, the best leaves my stereo system behind. But I did recon...
Sony announces three speakers
These seem like lifestyle speakers. Sony can sometimes be very good and innovative. E g their single driver "moebius duct" SRS ZX-1 active desktop speakers were good and served me well for some years. But - did they follow it up? Not that I can s...
Di I really need to clean my LP's?
I have experienced the stylus breaking off - from my very costly cartridge - maybe due to too poor cleaning. I don’t want a repeat. So what do I do? I mainly have a dry cleaning regime. If the record seems dirty, it goes into a manual wash. All ...
Best progressive rock album side
Another worthy European (Netherland) contender: Golden Earring: Eight Miles High. Maybe Procol Harum, on Home, isn't quite prog. Like many bands they tried to sell records - become more commercial. But often, it did not hurt. Same thing with Ste...
Best progressive rock album side
Yes, great thread, thanks to all. +1 Samla mammas manna. For early swedish prog, check out also, Hansson och Karlsson. Nationalteatern. Hoola Bandoola band. Part-prog, at least. The best prog band in the 70s in the Nordic region was perhaps Wigw...
Most Realistic Recordings
A dilemma appears - what is meant by "realistic"? The best possible sound from the band or artist? Or what we would actually hear, at a concert? Yes thank you, both - studio as well as live albums? That’s my view. But my idea of "realistic" goes t...
Most Realistic Recordings
Yes, thanks for many good suggestions in this thread! manogolf - re: Led Zeppelin - "How The West Was Won". I understand what you mean by ’live’ sound. But in my rig it doesn’t translate to ’good’ sound. I compared Immigration song from the 2018 ...
How much air does my preamp need?
I have the same problem with my Einstein The tube preamp. I installed a computer fan behind the preamp, and tuned it so it runs without noise. It reduces the heat. But I also - unlike before - turn the preamp off when not in use.
