S/N ratio Balanced input vs. Unbalanced input I wouldn’t worry about it but I would be curious. Even if not so loud, the hiss should not be there. I am allergic to anything that gives more digital glare, and the hiss may be a suspect, even if not much notable by itself when playing music in t...
S/N ratio Balanced input vs. Unbalanced input What happens if you disconnect the DAC from your amp? Hiss still there?
S/N ratio Balanced input vs. Unbalanced input So its not the connections. And the hiss is constant, regardless of the volume level?
S/N ratio Balanced input vs. Unbalanced input Auronthas - can you compare the hiss, changing to single ended input?
Uneven room dimensions/reflections = uneven toe in as solution? My room is fairly large (8.3 x 6.1 x 2.3 m) and symmetrical, and the speakers sound best playing from the short 6.1 m wall. However, the left side has windows while the right has shelves with LPs. So the left sound is brighter, the right darker. I...
What tube amp are you using with Von Schweikert VR series speakers dpm2340 They may be out of your budget, even used, but I think you owe it to yourself to hear these speakers with OTL tube amps. The Atma-sphere M-60 might do the job. (or at least the MA-1). I find that OTL has a clarity, timbre, immediacy etc t...
Turn down the Volume! I agree - avoid ambient and background noise - but NOT the ambient sound in the recording, which is there for a reason, like a band playing *together* and not each player on their own, the "good ambience" which is often pro-tooled away in modern r...
Turn down the Volume! I have a horn system. It plays better at low volume than the s-state system I had before. Still, it sounds better with some more volume. I would like it to sound great even lower. But I think this is difficult to achieve.
Analog vs. digital ghdprentice - you are a bit hasty declaring that this is "completely dependent on your components". It depends on the analog and digital formats too. Some of us hear problems with digital formats compared to analog, even if there are hassles the...
WallySkater and Reference. miljostyn - I hope you like the MA-2’s. I have MA-1s (3.2) that are a joy every day. I recently realized (once more) how much a good amp means for the sound, connecting some bookshelf and desktop speakers to the MA-1s. The speakers all rose to the...
Horns To get the best horn speaker sound you need matching amps. I use Atma-Sphere MA1 monoblocs, to the Audiokinesis Dream makers. These speakers are designed for tube amps. This match sounds way better than other speakers / amps I tried before.
Horns You might try Audiokinesis speakers. I have their big Dream makers, sounding fine.
Opportunity to buy Demo Magico M2? I would test them in my room before final buying. This is the final test - your room and your system. Can be surprising. I would give them room to breathe, good distance from walls, adjust toe-in, and go from there.
Turned back into a music lover The other day, a metaphor came into my mind. I enjoy this as much as a good TV film. Or more. Listening to analog LPs in my living room. 10cc Sheet music. I like films. For enterainment, the best leaves my stereo system behind. But I did recon...
Sony announces three speakers These seem like lifestyle speakers. Sony can sometimes be very good and innovative. E g their single driver "moebius duct" SRS ZX-1 active desktop speakers were good and served me well for some years. But - did they follow it up? Not that I can s... |
