How big is the sweet spot for the vandersteen quatro wood CT speakers?
The 6” window is with respect to vertical distance. The horizontal “sweet spot” is actually pretty wide as the horizontal off-axis response is quite consistent and smooth.
Galibier Stelvio II, Durand Kairos with Lyra Kleos (HEAVEN)
I’m over in Flower Mound and would have paid top dollar (or at least brought a bottle of bourbon) to join that party.
Choice of Vandersteen models
The Quattro Wood is a newer and (probably) more refined speaker, but the 5 offers greater placement flexibility with the rear-firing tweeter and the different subwoofer configuration. Personally, I’d go with the Quatro, but I don’t think you can g...
Gonna have to ditch the Soundsmith Carmen II
The can’t imagine NOT using a Sound Smith cartridge.  Amazing performance AND an amazing rebuild policy / price. $350 to rebuild my Aida to like-new status? Yes, please. I’d send your Carmen back to Peter for evaluation / rebuild. Best case, it’s ...
Speaker distance
I knew my distances. My room is less-than-ideal, so using an odd-dimensions placement is pretty critical. The acoustic centers of the speakers sit at the 1/5th and 1/7th intersections. The listening position (approximately) falls on odd-dimension ...

Retiring my Green Mountain Audio Continuum 3s for Stand Mount Speakers
What about one of the GMA stand mount (Eos) variants? I know Roy has some interesting things in the works. You may desire a small sub to augment the low end. Give him a call. If you stay diligent, you may find a set of Vandersteen Treos (or maybe...
Charley Hansen (Ayre) Passed Away
I have much respect for his designs - both in philosophy and execution. My Ayre stack is one of my prized possessions. I had many great interactions with Charley over the years on various forums - I learned much from him. I always looked forward t...
Vandersteen Treo CT vs Mag 3.7i speakers
Since you’re asking for clear opinions, I think the Vandersteen is a much more versatile option. Plus, it seems to me that Maggie advocates present their love with conditions - they need a certain stand, the caps / crosssovers should be tweaked, t...
Stylus force digital scales
@brf you are totally right. I was thinking about this more during a drive right after I posted, and never corrected. Good stuff.
Stylus force digital scales
VTF only changes when you hit a warp because of inertia - the same reason you feel more force (and then less force) when driving over a bump in the road. It has nothing to do with the angle of the tonearm. The only change in the vertical force vec...
Question for cable/wire naysayers.....
I generally stay out of cable discussions because they typically go nowhere, but since the world may come to an end today, I’ll fan the flames...Even the naysayers believe somewhat in the effect of cables, or they’d suggest the use of the throwawa...
I need a fitting/appropriate tonearm for my Teres 340
I should expand on my interest...I'm kind of in the same boat. I've got a Teres table (cocobolo base, solid acrylic platter, Verus motor) and I'm currently using an OL Silver (mk II, I believe) arm. It would be easy to stay in the OL family, but c...

I'm watching this thread with interest.
