Please Rate These Cartridges in Best Overall Order of Sonic Importance. Recommended Arms?
If you actually own all those cartridges, I rate them all below a single cartridge that you could buy if you sold them all. Once you've narrowed to a single cartridge, a we can have a rational conversation about a tonearm.
ACA...Amp Camp Amp...anyone built one?
I have absolutely have no need for a setup exactly as you describe, but I still think about building a pair.
Any opinions on the Audioquest CV-8 Speaker Cable?
I use a shotgun bi-wired set between my Ayre AX-7e and my Vandersteen Quatro CTs. Particularly in a shotgun bi-wire configuration, I think they are killer - 2 x 72 Volt DBS, 2 x 12 ga. wire, ability to put some distance between the runs, etc. Plus...
Nakamichi Cassette Decks
It really doesn't matter if the dealer is "trustworthy" - if the deck hasn't been restored, it's not going to play to spec. Find a deck with a solid reputation (from anywhere, working or not) and someone who can restore that brand / model. I just ...
Subwoofer for Ayre AX-7e?
It’s really not that complicated - I did it for years: Connect the sub speaker level, positive leg only. Connect the negative leg of the sub to the chassis of the amplifier. No need for high-end cable; just use hookup wire. Easy. You’re missing th...
Subwoofer for Ayre AX-7e?
As someone who loves his AX-7e so much he had Ayre install high-pass crossover caps so he could use it to drive a pair of Quatro CTs, I’d build your system around this component. I used to drive a pair of monitors + subs, but my GMA Callistos coul...
Record Cleaning Fluid?
Well...someone had to try it. But what's a repeatable test? I'm not saying the following is definitive (or even valid), but here's what I've done and my very, very early conclusions...I had no idea how much Finish Jet Dry Original rinse aid (http:...
Typical New Speaker Dealer Discount A Buyer May Expect
I paid list for the last set of speakers I purchased (I did not ask for a discount, and I told the dealer I would not be asking for a discount). The dealer gives above and beyond service to his customers (and the the general populace on this forum...
Vandersteen 2CE Signature II: Is it worth the price of $2700? Why are so many for sale?
@drew_k ... Ha! When I heard my first set of 2ce Sigs, I had the same reaction. You can spend much more and do much worse.
Balanced cables
@stringreen Back to the intent of your post...What are you using for power distribution? I’d maybe try an Ayre 5-Lxe in front of your source components. Yes, “Ayre-conditioning” is already part of each component of your Ayre stack, but I recall th...
Balanced cables
I'd like to thank @atmasphere and @almarg for participating whenever discussions involve balanced cables / components.I've noticed a few assumptions that lead to confusion surrounding balanced cables / components. Here's how I generally cut to the...
Last stylus preservative...anyone still use it?
I recently repurchased new bottles of Last Stylus Cleaner and Last Stylus Preservative. I use them religiously in conjunction with a Magic Eraser.
What do you think of your Soundsmith Cartridge
I love my Sound Smith Aida for 2 reasons: 1) it kicks a--, and 2) if/when I do something stupid and break it, he’ll rebuild it for $350. The only reason I’d "dump" my Sound Smith Aida is to buy a better / different Sound Smith cartridge. Not to me...
Record Cleaning Fluid?
Jet Dry is just a rinse aid liquid - you’re thinking of those Finish tabs. I’d never consider putting one of those in my US machine. A few ml of Jet Dry? Perhaps. You can find Jet Dry at any grocery store here in the ‘states. No chem degree here. ...
Record Cleaning Fluid?
I’ve always wondered how some Jet Dry would affect the performance of a KL Audio US machine. In theory, it seems like an ideal additive. Borrowed from another site…Finish Jet-Dry rinse aid has a bunch of stuff in it, but it isn’t complicated, real...
