B&W 802D tweeter replacement
Sell them as-is to someone that wants to repair them correctly. Love them or hate them, B&W speakers have amazing value on the secondary market, and you’re about to make them (close to) worthless.
Green Mountain Audio's Calypso HD Speakers?
I have a set of Callistos and have always wanted to listen to the Calypsos. If you have any questions, call Roy himself. He’s a great guy and will tell you even more than you probably want to know.
Quatro Wood setup help
RV says that power cords don’t make a difference with the amps used in the Quatros. Save your money or use it elsewhere. If you do spend money on power cords, make sure they’ll seat between the near sink fins. I bought the Pangea AC-9 v2 cables, b...
Audioquest Makenzie XLRs
If I were in your shoes, I’d go with the Mogami Gold Studio Microphone Cable and not look back.
iFi AC iPurifier
Just put a third iFi AC Purifier in my system.
Audioquest Makenzie XLRs
Whoa...We're mixing things up and (potentially) going to confuse the OP.Quite simply, pins 2 and 3 are reversed on the pre-amp (w/ respect to what is normal in the US). In all reality, this should make absolutely no difference in what is "seen" by...
Audioquest Makenzie XLRs
Just flip the speaker cables on the amp side (+) -> (-), and (-) -> (+) and leave the speaker cables on the speaker side (+) -> (+), and (-) -> (-). You can "fix" it through XLR cable modification, but then you'd be messing with perfec...
Audioquest Makenzie XLRs
In short, XLR isn't necessarily better. However, the ATI 2007 is a balanced amp, and the Marantz 7704 will output a balanced signal, so in this instance, I'd be inclined to try a balanced cable. Not to complicate matters, but you'll want to verify ...
Audioquest Makenzie XLRs
Are you buying interconnects for 2 channels or 7 channels (or somewhere in between)? Why XLR? I don’t believe either the Marantz or ATI are differential balanced. I’m a big fan of AudioQuest,  However, I’m not sure I’d throw a lot of money at cable...
New Cartridge Suggestions
The Otello can be ordered as High Compliance, but standard is Medium Compliance. The only hesitation is that Peter describes this cartridge as "warm" and the OP tends "to like things a tad bright".Additional Specifications Stylus: Elliptical Titan...
New Cartridge Suggestions
I’m a Soundsmith fanboy, so take this for what you will...I’d consider the $400 Otello from Soundsmith:https://sound-smith.com/cartridges/fixed-coil/otelloWith budget concerns, I’d even consider a rebuilt "B" stock unit for $300 (as it will be ess...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
What Dave fails to comprehend is that when you try a new cartridge, and decline to purchase said cartridge, the next in line considers it used. Perhaps the phrase “have your cake and eat it, too” should be change to “use a cartridge and keep it new”.
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
Gosh, now you've got me thinking about quitting my job and selling (just) cartridges full time. Help me think through this...How much would I need to invest in inventory to be the ideal "cartridge guy" in the DFW metroplex? I'm centrally located, ...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
@tangramca,That is (literally) the only way to audition an individual component. I get a chuckle when people "audition" individual pieces of equipment at a dealer, a show, or in another member's home. Different people claim to audition different c...
The nightmare of the cartridge buyer...
I always find it amusing when we begin to pontificate on the economics of this business. Given how easy it is to produce high-end, boutique offerings for a limited market, the logistics around supporting the finicky retail consumer of said offerin...
