Tubes ECC88/6DJ8? Need all the help I can get I suggest you wait until you are very familar with the sound of your new amp before you decide you need to improve on you sound. Then you will be able to ask for a specific sounding tube to change what you don't like or improve on certain parts of...
Ei6DJ8 elite gold I agree re - sound rating but in a less demanding location they really add some richness to the bass. I'm still experimenting - so far they work fine in my amp (as above) and are very quiet in this application.
Up on the roof You would have to rent a man lift or erect a scaffold, neither would be cheap - I'd stay with the pro's - just supervise them closely to be sure its done right.
APS-13 antenna owners? Here's a thought - is APS still marketing the APS 13? I checked on Google and its not on their web site and another dealer noted that it was no longer available.
VTA Adjustment VTA=Vertical Tracking Angle. The correct vertical angle is established by the angle of the cutting head on the original master disc. You want to match the angle of your stylus exactly to this angle. Now all you have to do is figure out what the an...
Ei6DJ8 elite gold I recommended that combo to someone in the last few weeks. Glad it worked for you too. FWIW I had less success with them in the line stage of my ARC SP10, but thats almost to be expected (they got noisy quickly). They have a nice full bass and are...
Who out there knows about Audio Research Pre's??? Well, I have a ARC SP10II AND a Mesa Baron! That said, the pre-amp you pick will be determined by what tone you expect to get. The Baron is neutral and can be more like SS except for the presence of tube air and spaciousness. I like my system to e...
Jazz suggestions please For some mellow sax I couldn't recommend Houston Person more highly. He plays lots of standards. Also Ron Carter on the bass viol. In fact they have teamed up on one recent release and Ron has a series of releases. Ron is a tad more contemporary i...
Power amp sensitivity....... The 2150B is 1.5v and the impedence is 10K. Can't help on the others.
Want More Bass Bob, I think your right about forgetting the sub woofer but for a different reason. One of his statements, that no one has keyed on, is his preference for low volume sound. One of the ancient studies about human hearing shows that we tend not to h...
Cables to mitigate CD glare -upper mids/lower hi's If your preamp has a tape loop you simply connect the equalizer/tone controls to the designated RCA's of the back of the pre amp. When you want to hear the source thru the equalizer you turn on the tape monitor. Check your pre-amp manual. As for r...
Cables to mitigate CD glare -upper mids/lower hi's Cardas is always referred to when someone asks for a warm cable. I use Cardas. However, have you considered how you will feel when your collection of high quality CD's exceed the ones with the midrange glare - you won't be able to hear hear much o...
Moscode 600 amp Haven't run accross an amp which inverts polarity - don't think any do - think about it, if they did all the manufacturer would have to do is relabel the + and - posts and you'd have correct polarity. And, thats how to cure your problem, simply ho...
spend more money on pre or power amp ? If I were starting from scratch I would buy the best and most neutral pre amp and speakers I could afford (by reputation, mostly). These would be my baseline for further changes. Then I would find an amp that matched the requirements of the speake...
Has anyone mixed SS and tube amps in one system? Lots of folks do this but at a minimum you have to deal with differing input sensitivities in the amps. If they don't match you'll have to figure out how to match them (easiest way is with in line attenuators). Depending on the built in crossovers... |
