What bugs you most about sound quality?
If you can hear uncompressed CD's in your car stereo with out detecting loss of the quiet moments, you either have an extremely low noise threshold in your car (like a RR),you have a very compressed audio system in your car, you have lost the abil...
Ageless Music?
No music is ageless! Your reference to the classical greats presupposes that they will be as popular in 200 years as now.....but, in fact, interest in classical music in general is waning already. Music is a reflection of the society in which it e...
does high end system need expensive speaker cable
Speaker cables can make a difference, both good and bad, and cost doesn't have a great deal to do with the result (IMHO). I think many folks use cable as a form of tone control to correct deficiencies in their basic electronics/speaker match, not ...
Am i missing some good and lifelike speakers ?tks
It seems from your list that you are predisposed to panel speakers. Thats OK if you have a proper environment for them - hearing a well set up pair in demo will not tell you much about how they will sound in your room when you get them home - they...
What does Flat Earth mean in audio circles?
What that you say? Next thing you know some one will say there is no man in the moon eating cheese. The earth is not oblate or elliptical! Its flat, damm it!!!!!!!!!!!Yeh, I'm having a very slow day too.
Speaker wire, help my laid back sound??
I think Gunbei's on point. If your looking for something other than a very subtle change, cabling should not be your first choice - get an equalizer or get rid of the component causing your problem. :-) Changes in cabling can effect tonal issues, ...
Recording quality of Dorian?
I have never been disappointed by the quality of Dorian CD's. Apart from the ones you mentioned, which are more focused on audiophile issues, as opposed to musical performances, Dorian has excellent performances as well as sonics. I put them in th...
Looking for a guide to best classical recordings
I'm a bit confused - are you referring to "definitive recordings" to mean the quality of the recorded sound, or did you mean the performance with out regard to the sound, or did you mean a combo of both? If you are concerned with audio quality, as...
Opinions on stereo subs v. a single mono sub?
Two reasons that I can think of are the point and slope of the cross over - if it is too high or two shallow some signals (in stereo) will become a mono source from a 3rd location. This will muddy up the clarity of the image in that frequency rang...
Placement of Magnepan 1.6's or 3.6's
Tconny, My mind must have wandered when I read your thread and the following posts - for some reason I thought you were referring to Thiel 3.6's. I certainly was not recommending Thiels, nor would I. Sorry for causing confusion - I feel really dum...
Tube DACs
I have a Cal Alpha in my main system (w/a BAT DK5) and a Sigma II in a 2nd system and use them regularily so long as I'm not looking for the ultimate audio adventure (great resolution and soundstaging). They are warm and musical - they are a bit f...
Which is more important?
I agree with Onhwy61 - you need to assess your systems shortcomings and develope a plan. Were I you I would get the best neutral monitors & amp that I could afford, and a good sub woofer. (If you are happy with your speakers and amp as they ar...
Placement of Magnepan 1.6's or 3.6's
You can use the Thiel speakers on the short wall (firing down the length of the room if you can place them well out from the back wall and close to the side wall with your listening position triangulated and with the axis of the speaker crossing w...
Silverline Sonata MK.lll overall sound
I do not have the Sonata III's. A very attractive speaker though. You say "On some of my CD's......" Perhaps you are now hearing your software (or hardware) as it really is. Your complaint is not unusual for someone who has finally acquired really...
Please advise - volume-variable buzz in spkrs
Well, you can start from scratch. Disconnect everything from your preamp (except amp) and see if you have a buzz. If you don't add each source, one at a time, when the buzz appears you have your culprit.
