Help me find it again
I wish I had more familarity with your equipment, but I don't so FWIW, the problem you describe suggests to me that you should revisit your amp/speaker/room selection and interface. My sense is that your room is too large for good bass reproductio...
what are the distances for setting up monitors?
Speakers differ - so will the differences. Set them up so they sound best to you in your room. I set mine up on a 10 to 11 ratio measured from the speakers.
Do You Remember Your First CD Player?
I bought a Sony 101 in the early 80's and very few CD's - just couldn't stand one or the other. A few years later I discovered Cal Audio's Aria II - it really fleshed out the music - but still didn't compete with Vinyl - I bought some more CD's. T...
What steps forward were actually steps backward?
Accuphase AC3 Phono Cartridge - bought on recommendations from the mags - "best imaging cartridge ever made" - sound familar. Cold as a well digger's ....! Decided to live with my Grace 'til it died.Next in line was my Thiel CS3 "best imaging..." ...
Build a system around speakers in the $5-$7.5K
I'd want to hear the Dali ML4's, the Silverline Bolero's, and a used pair of Verity Parsifals. (I have a fairly small room.) 'Til then I'm happy with what I've got.
Next Biggest Improvement after Speakers ?
Well, now for a contrarian point of view regarding this old chicken vs egg argument. Obviously the room is the most important item, however I never bought Ivor's argument for one reason - If you pick high quality, neutral and revealing speakers to...
Booming bass from WP6
Iujona, More encouragement to experiment - I have full range speakers, w/a -3db point of 28hz, in a 263sq ft room (13.5x19.5x9) and I do not have boomy bass, unless you call a 5db hump at 32hz boomy. Lots of listening, testing and mapping (and mov...
Senior Audiophiles - Audiophile since the 60-70's?
Hiatus from audio? How would I be able to listen to the music? Hiatus from audiophilia (spending money on tweeks & equipment at least) is an ongoing project.
Booming bass from WP6
Perhaps your sitting in an area affected by a standing wave. Try moving your chair and see if there is any change. Ditto your speakers. If you want specific help you can post your room dimensions and indicate where your chair and speakers are now ...
Best affordable amp for Thiel CS3.6
If you can find a good Threshold Class A amp, such as the SA 1 (monos), SA 2 or SA 3 (only 50 watts, which were enuf for me when I had my Thiels) you'll be pleased. They work exceptionally well with this speaker.
The Best Inexpensive Wines Available Now
Bigest surprise I have had in years at a recent "wine tasting" were a Chardonay by a small Nevada County (Calif) winery called Indian Springs. Light (for a Chardonay) very fruity, little after taste, moderately priced at $9. However THE BIG SURPRI...
great little speakers
Spendor 3/5a's. Classic design - long in production. Clean, clear, neutral sound. Good bass for tiny box. No earbleeds with these - and they are available used and very reasonably priced.
Help I have not bought equipment since mid 80's
Its a mine field out there! You really have to invest some time in planning out your system before you start buying stuff. You need to address (1) What kind of sound do you want to hear such as warm, euphonic, neutral to the source, highly detaile...
Should audiophiles be disappointed?...
Your expectations will never be met at any price. The room is an integral part of the sound of your system. Get some books on acoustics and read up - a little knowledge about acoustics will save you a lot of disappointments in the future.
Vandersteen-like "In-between" speakers
The 3A's may be just the speaker for you - based on your approval of low volume performance and detailed but not hard, highs. Quality speakers in your price range should not introduce a bass bloat problem not inherent in your room itself, and the ...
