When is digital going to get the soul of music?
I've been away and haven't noticed this tread before so a big caveat - I haven't read all of the posts and I'm confident someone has already asked the question - but, what the hell is the "soul of music" as it's related to audio replication of a r...
Frequencys charted..next step??
Dzigon, Are you taking the measurements from the listening seat (sweet spot)? For the most part that is the most important location. Also, it appears that you have a multi channel set up. Assuming that you have taken the measurements from the swee...
How Important is Tube Matching?
Much depends on the design of the unit involved. Lots of tube amps can sound just fine without matched output tubes if they are designed to allow for biasing of each tube individually. Some pre-amps, especially those that operate in a balanced mod...
"warm" analog vs "lean" digital sound
Tough question to answer in any meaningful way because there is such diversity in sound quality with each medium itself. Analog is not inherrently warm, full, and round sounding. Digital is not necessarily lean. Rather than to argue the difference...
Help on soundstaging
Down and dirty advise. Bring them out into the room about 4 feet and set up the listening position equal distance from the speakers as they are from each other. Start with toe in so the axis of the speakers crosses several feet behind your head. T...
Electrostat transparency from conventional speaker
An overly simple answer for being able to potentially replicate an electrostatic with a dynamic speaker is getting a dynamic speaker which has the capacity for very high resolution/transparancy, but not artifically up tilted. Not easy to do and no...
Frequencys charted..next step??
Are the spikes at the main listening position (sweet spot)? How large are the spikes?
8 Vs 4 ohms
It won't hurt anything except it will sound different, only slightly perhaps, on careful listening. Typically at 8ohms the highs will be smoother and the bass a little loose. On 4 ohms you will have a tighter bass response and it may or may not ef...
cable upgrades , real or rip off
You are right, it has been done to death! And it hasn't really been resolved, probably because most everyone has some interest in the outcome. First and foremost the folks who make their living off PC sales who probably report hearing huge differe...
Which Vivaldi Four Seasons CD to buy???
Well, probably not what you are looking for, but for something a bit different try the jazz rendition by the Jacques Loussier Trio. Very easy going jazz. He also recorded some Bach, Satie and Ravel. All on Telarc. Much as I like more traditional v...
Tube Amp out of Bias-what does it sound like?
The initial bias setting is made when the amp has been on for a few minutes, usually after a tube change etc, and with the bias set at its minimum setting. Once that setting has been made let the amp run for an hour or so to warm up sufficiently t...
Unusually good power cord for the money?
FWIW, if you really don't know anything about power cords, invest some time in learning before you leap. You might just save some money. I have found often that heavy guage, cheapo, Belden sounds as good as anything. At best, a lot of folks can't ...
What is the "best" of the 5881 Tubes.
The only 5881's I heard were Sovtek's so I can't judge. However, somewhere I read that your amp would take 6l6gc's. If that is so I would recommend the SED 6l6gc. Its a great tube, especially thru the mid range.
Poll? Seperates or 2ch. tube for better stereo...
Demo - great. Buy? Not yet I think, unless you have worked extensively on system set up. What you describe as lacking is suggestive to me of inadequate attention to speaker/listening position placement and appropriate room treatment.
using hokey pucks for isolating speakers from the
Thats what I use under my 100+ lb speakers over a well built suspended hard wood floor and they work quite well. FWIW I don't buy into the theory regarding vibration draining as it might apply to speakers and I find that with heavy speakers they a...
