A Very Narrow Listening Room
Vinylmatters, It will help a lot if you get a Radio Shack Sound Level meter and a test disc with 1/3d octave pink noise tones up to at least 200hz (Stereophile test disc's with pink noise work fine). That way you can measure everything, speaker an...
A Very Narrow Listening Room
Now for something really different.....Try moving your speakers closer (yes closer!) to the side walls BUT toe them in so that the axis of the speaker crosses well in front of you. Several thing will occur: 1) You may not find a meaningful change ...
what is good sound ?
9rw, ROTFLMAO, go get'em! Reminds me of how some folks seem to live in (or come from) a time warp.Marco, Don't fret, Good sound came to my house - it got frustrated knocking at the door of folks who didn't appreciate. But it still exists. :-)
Wadia vs. Audiomeca
Honest1, FWIW (probably not much) I recently picked up a new Wadia 302 which I have in a System with a BAT DK5 and a Cal Alpha/Delta. This was a purchase made without listening first, sort of an impulse buy based more on a recent review than anyth...

I'd try moving each speaker inward about 6 inches(total 1'). If there is no change, move'em back. If its better but not perfect try moving them closer an inch at a time. If it works then start moving the further apart again, inch at a time, until ...
Your vote: Most Useless Audio Adjective
A post yesterday reminded me of another adjective I've never understood - 'vinyl' like. With all the different cartridges and phono preamp variations it can't be tonal, can't be that someone wants clicks, snaps, pops, and tracing noise, can't be t...
Isolating the listening chair?
Wow! I've got lead in my butt, according to my wife anyway, perhaps if I used lead in my cushions I would get some great synergy. Sorry if your post was serious......:-)

Have you tried moving your speakers slightly closer together yet? A perfect triangle may just not be the right angle for them. A bit closer together may get you a better focussed center image. Try it, its free.
Preamp gain vs. poweramp sensitivity
Paul, FWIW, I don't believe your amp will see the output impedence of your source. It will see the output impedence of your (passive) line stage. Does the 'passive' line stage you are considering have a constant output impedence, or does the outpu...
Tube rolling in Cayin A-88T
Bartockfan, Spam? Reconsider your musings about Tyler speakers and the Cayin Amps. Frankly, that IMHO, is SPAM. You have no first hand knowledge of either yet you ponder on, an on, and on to the benefit of no one except yourself by seeing your tho...
Tube rolling in Cayin A-88T
Lowrider, How much time do you have on the amp? Break in of tubes as well as the amp itself is quite important. If you have less than 100 hours on a new tube amp I'd reserve judgment. Ultimately though you might roll in some warmer power tubes (I ...
Looking for moderate priced MC phono pre
Thom (and others), thanks for your thougtful response. FYI you guessed my motivation for change, in part at least. My record collection has been purged of stuff which no longer interests me all me and is down to about 500LP's. My silver disc colle...
Looking for moderate priced MC phono pre
Thom, Click on 'Systems' next to my moniker and you'll find a description of my equipment. I could (and have) use the phono pre of my SP10 but I'd be happy with a small but competent box. I'm familar with the EAR unit but I'm looking for alternati...
IMAGE PROBLEMS VOCALS OFF CENTER
Good question. Don't know the 'scientific' answer. I have traditionally set up my speakers (of all types) a minimum of 9ft apart and a listening distance of 10 feet, toeing in the speakers to minimize 1st reflection points from the side walls. Sor...
Tyler Acoustics Linbrook/Super Mini Monitors
Bartockfan, Wrong - The Signature System comes in either a two piece, principally made for folks with the monitors to add a bass module, or a one piece for folks starting from scratch. Both have the same driver complement. Both cost the same. The ...
