Questions about tubes
Whether you end up being happy with tubes may depend on how carefully you select a tube amp/integrated to match your speakers and which produce a tone you find attractive. I'm not familar with your speakers so I won't make any recommendations on a...
Anyone else evolve beyond tubes?
Audiofeil, I'd guess that the 'manufacturer' was talking about the failure rate when they screen tubes to be used in their stuff, not the failure rate of tubes in service in the field, or by dealers testing tubes prior to sale. FWIW, I've heard of...
Wood blocks underneath components?? snake oil?
Hi Tom, I agree with your thought. As the world turns so to speak, so do we. And we go 'round in circles, a wheel within a wheel. Perhaps if we could design a platform supported by magnetic forces in opposition might might we then have the perfect...
Wood blocks underneath components?? snake oil?
Rotarius, Fair warning! Nasty wars have already been fought in this forum about the efficacy of the devises which are purported to drain vibrations from audio equipment. Been there, done that. When it was all over there was no agreement about anyt...
Review on the Tyler Acoustics Lynbrook Signature's
More than enuf unless you're inviting early tinitus or deafness! :-)I've recently acquired a set of 30 wt pp mono amps which easy accomplish the task of driving my One Piece Signature Systems. Previously I was using a set of 160 wt mono's to get t...

Regarding the issue of warmth. FWIW, other speakers when set up in my room have a bit of a dip in the 200 hz range (without regard to cross over issues - one set are Quad 63's, the others are Paragon Jubilee/Jems which cross over at 400hz. The Tyl...
Wood blocks underneath components?? snake oil?
Cdc, FWIW my question is probably not relevant as I was mixing apples and oranges so to speak, i.e. vibrations control vs resonance control, but FWIW yes ceramics do have a resonance point.Best example I can think of which graphically show this is...
Wood blocks underneath components?? snake oil?
Dumb question time for all you resonance control affictionados....Its my understanding that everything resonanates at some frequency. By using different materiels aren't you just changing the resonance frequency? Wouldn't you need to know the freq...
mission 775s w/774 arm...a forgotten jewel?
Had one in the 80's and sold it when I got my Oracle. Big mistake, not that the Oracle is bad, its just that for the $'s that table and arm were great. The only (and I mean only) downside that I could remember was it had no torque - you had to hel...
QUAD vs Martin Logan vs Magnepan
You can do this with well set up 'box' speakers as well as panels and electrostats. In fact the first time I heard this holographic effect was with a small pair of Thiel 04's (box 2 way floorstanders) driven by a Threshold class A amp, a Conrad Jo...
QUAD vs Martin Logan vs Magnepan
You have to decide what kind of sound staging you want before you choose one of these speakers over the other, especially the Quad vs any panel. The are very different! If you want a high resolution point source speaker other than a more convention...
Low watt tube amps/pros/cons
Usually an amp which can take a KT88 can take a 6550 - however its always best to check with the manufacturer. This might not apply to substituting KT88's into a curcuit designed for a KT90 however (as I recently descovered the hard way!)
Low watt tube amps/pros/cons
Beemerrider, Not everything is equal. You cannot make such a broad assumption. I think one of the reasons that folks like KT88's is that they serve up a warmer frequency response than other pentodes and are a better match for a lot of components w...

I don't know about you guys's but BF's mere existence as well as the state of his knowledge makes me feel good about myself, both personally and as an expert in things audio. Be thankful for small things! :-)

Carlos, FWIW, my room is 19.5x13.5x9 (close to your's in size). I have the speakers on the short wall 6'(measured from the front of the speaker) from the wall and each speaker (measured from the tweeter) is 2 feet from the side walls. On the left ...
