Tubeguys:How much "tube sound" from tube players?
Foster_9, Sorry, I forgot to answer your question. IMHO what you seek from a tubed CDP will be lost with out the benefit of a tubed amp. With my present stuff I vastly prefer the combination of a SS CDP (Wadia) with tubed amps (Sonic Frontiers) th...
Tubeguys:How much "tube sound" from tube players?
I've never had to make a choice except for the recent purchase of a SS CDP (although I do have two SS amps about which I only use in emergencies). After giving this a great deal of thought ( :-) ) I think I agree with Trelja. It is probably far eas...
Many reviewers will lead you down the wrong path.
Mmakshak, If the part of my post you need to study relates to set up and use of out of phase information, a subject rarely discussed in this forum, I'll be happy to explain my procedure. Or, whatever....I didn't mean my post to be ambiguous. :-)
Sound traps/acoustic panels to improve the sound
For some reason I have a hard time accepting the statement by the manufacturer that the speakers didn't require any specific placement. This is because in my experience the least suitible place to put a speaker is against the back wall. This kind ...
When showing your system to others, what do you do
With my guests, on those rare occasions when someone actually inquires, I simply ask them what kind of music they like and play it. I try to avoid all discussion of audio and answer basic questions as simply as possible, and move on. Love to talk ...
Am I a burning out audiophile????
Viridan, You beat me to it! Diana Krall for Pete's sake. Small wonder Jh2os is getting bored. As for Patricia Barber, great recordings, in monotone! Lets talk real jazz, my jazz that is. :-) No offense intended. For Jh2os, FWIW I'm driving Tylers w...
Many reviewers will lead you down the wrong path.
Misleading to those inclined to be mislead perhaps. I have several CD's/LP's which I use because they have borderline problems which can be revealed in components or system set-up which will exacerbate the problems or, alternatively eliminate them...
Biwired-Dunlavy V- Bass reduced why?
Here's a real dumb question - have you moved your speakers or your listening position, or both? If you have that could well be your problem. FWIW.
line conditioner for amplifiers
Wow, If the P300 is attenuating the treble, I sure don't want one. Thanks for the warning!Interestingly this is the first time I have heard of a PS product attenuating high frequencies. :-)
a little dinner music
Agree w/Sogood re Houston Persons. Most any of his recent recordings on Blue Note. My wife prefers these when we have guests. Also there are recordings by Charlie Haden that are not only good dinner stuff, but outstanding performances 'Beyond the M...
Waltz for Debby-Bill Evans Trio
Hoopster, Sorry 'bout that Horn recommendation not working out for you. But don't give them away just yet. :-) You like Mary Stallings and I agree. Now, if you would like to try (assuming you haven't already) a newer voice in jazz who will never p...
what is good sound ?
Jeeze, talk about someone who needs an anger management course! You're a psych major(?) and you get upset when someone challenges you for your conduct in creating a thread and responding to posts. That surprises me as I would think your training s...
Resistors burned on Sonic Frontiers amp
When a power tube shorts out on a SF amp it will most often take out a resistor and a fuse. Subsequently you cannot bias the amp until you replace the resistor. Its happened to me 3 times in 10 years - Now I only use rugged tubes (SED's).
Zu speaker owners - do you have any gain issues?
Not a Zu owner, but I can assure you 101 db sensitivity will create the problem you anticipate. Ever noticed that SET amps seem to have low input sensitivity. Another issue to deal with, especially if you have tubes, is the noise threshold - be su...
A Very Narrow Listening Room
Regular updates please. It can be helpful for others in setting up their equipment under similar circumstances. Also, it gives the advise givers some feed back on what does, or doesn't work, under your circumstances. Good luck.........
