concrete vs. wood listening room
No down side to using spikes on carpeted concrete, in fact it will usually help give you a more secure connection to the floor and make the speaker more stable (assuming that you use 4 spikes, not three. I found that three spikes under a tall spea...
Krall's Look of Love soundstage more to the left
Andy2, I've listened to both albums and I get a very even image. Can't explain your problem. Any chance you've blown a tweeter in your right speaker? That would explain why the voice is centered as that's mostly from the mid-range driver. Hope not...
Krall's Look of Love soundstage more to the left
Just put it on the player - Voice is dead center in the first cut and so it goes there after (actually I took it off after 4 tracks). Not the CD. Ears or set up perhaps - do you hear this left of center image all of the time, or ever, with any oth...
Is there any benefit to a tubed phono stage?
Can't have too many tubes! :-)Actually there are some fine SS and Tubed phono stages. I'd make my choice based on tone and versitility, that is the ability to adjust so you can use different types of cartridges with different gain and loading requ...
Ref. 3a , GMA & Tyler compare ?
Bombaywalla, Sorry I caused you offense, however I thought your statement about the Linbrooks implied that you had heard them and that you found them soft and warm - then tried to create an anology to tube amps from the 70's and 80's. I find it ea...
Ref. 3a , GMA & Tyler compare ?
Saki, I'm posting only because of a couple of comments above might mislead you. FWIW as I have no experience with either the DeCapos or the Calisto's and my experience with the Tylers is the Linbrook Signature 1 piece floor stander's - My point of...
concerned with using two sets of spades at amp
Makes a difference, having 2 sets. What I would do (other than locking bananas) assuming your connectors are located in a way that you have the space to do so, is to connect the spades so that the wires are at a 45 degree angle to the base and the...
Waltz for Debby-Bill Evans Trio
Hoopster, Not to worry, Shirly died very recently so Diane will have no reason to be jealous. Besides Horn was not just a tad on the ugly side. Interestingly Krall sort of syled herself after Horn who was one of her heros. Superficially Krall soun...
concerned with using two sets of spades at amp
Personally, unless you can solder the two spades together and get a solid fit, I'd avoid the risk and use one set of spades and one set of 'locking' bananas. I've had zero problem with locking bananas, fit wise or coming loose. I share your concer...
Waltz for Debby-Bill Evans Trio
Hoopster, 3rd shot at the apple ......Ikarus' post reminded me - I not only totally agree with him, but I would add three other Charlie Haden recordings. Beyond the Missouri SkyLand of the Sunand a duet with Hank Jones 'Steal Away'.All great late-...
Help with stripped screw head
You can get a small screw extractor from Sears (for example) which you attach to your drill and it will allow you to just back the screw out. Its designed for stripped screw heads.
Waltz for Debby-Bill Evans Trio
Hoopster, I forgot to mention that if you can take a little jazz vocal with the music, an absolute must have, are the recordings of Shirly Horn most of which are live in concert. Try "I thought about you", live at Vine St. Warning, once you hear H...
Is polk Lsi15 too big for my 20x13x8 room?
Odnok, I assume you asking about the Tyler Linbrook Monitors.....Based on your comments regarding sound level you would listen at I would think a tube amp of 35 wts such as the Primaluna would work well. But it won't 'rock out'. A better person to...
Waltz for Debby-Bill Evans Trio
I assume you are familar with Evan's other recordings made at the Village Vanguard about the same time. If you like late night, laid back, jazz by a sax based trio it's hard to beat Houston Person's most recent recordings on Blue Note, a studio re...
Speakers and stands: how to place?
Unless you have really high end stuff and are trying to max out resolution, etc, just use blue-tac or that stuff Gunbei recommended. The blue-tac is probably going to give your speakers a much more secure attachment to the stands (as opposed to sp...
