Best small signal tube for a preamp?
My BAT, an early model (1997 I think) came with low noise Sovteks. Not much different (then) from the 6h23's - I thought the 6h23's might have been a tad, no more, warmer/smoother than the Sovteks but I was using them in my SP10 which is reknown f...
Soundstage...How to determine what's right?
Rodman99999, This is probably not the time or place for a discussion of recording abberations such as you have described, so I'll keep it short. From what you have discribed the recording with the super wide sound stage had a lot of out of phase i...
Best small signal tube for a preamp?
Rodman99999, I'd love to hear those Siemens in my Cal Sigma/Delta. But, don't they use 12AX7a? :-)I use 6h23EB's in my BAT (original version - no upsampling). Do you think there is a significant improvement over these when using the Sieman's you m...
Soundstage...How to determine what's right?
I have the Chesky Ultimate Demonstration Disc as well as the Sheffield disc. I like the Shieffield disc for its 'walk about' cut, and its 'out of phase' cut but other than that it didn't impress me. It does have 'burn in' tracks some might like to...
All time favorite speaker cables
I suspect you are looking for some 'high end' recommendations - this won't be of any help. But, FWIW, after a couple of years and many high end cables I settled on some Cardas cable 10+ years ago (Quadlink) and used it thru several systems. It was...
Reflecktor 6H23P-EB Tube for ARC pre-amps
I've used these tubes in my SP10II for years. Clean/clear tone, neutral and very rugged. The latter is the principal reason I use them. Very rugged.
Soundstage...How to determine what's right?
Opus 3 has some 'test CD's' that fit your description of needs. My favorite has been 'Depth of Image' which I have on LP and CD but I think they are now sold over the internet in a series of CD's. Check them out.The are, for the most part, cuts fr...
speaker to big?
FWIW, with panel speakers and electrostats, you need a fair amount of space behind them to get the best imaging available. Too close to the rear wall and you will be combining the first reflections with the primary signals which will blur sharp im...
What time do you wear?
Bob, Nice watch! Three great reasons to own it. Some day my ship will come in..........:-)
speaker to big?
"Loud levels" can be simply overdriving the room. Consider that the initial signals from the speakers are continually bouncing off walls, ceilings, etc, without sufficient opportunity to decay. This will destroy good 'imaging'. You can help this s...
What time do you wear?
Brian, You are correct. The statement as a general proposition was unfair. But, I thought perhaps it would serve as a wake up call for those to whom it MIGHT apply. :-)
What time do you wear?
I'm confused by these last two posts. Rolex an everyday watch? For those who think its important to wear something on their wrist that everyone who looks will recognize and interpert it to mean that the wearer is 'wealthy'?At least most people, ex...
speaker to big?
It depends on how much importance you place on the presence of deep bass info vs the insertion of an add-on parametric equalizer.Personally, I would opt for a 'fuller' range floorstanding speaker and lopping the tops off low frequency nodes caused...
Entry levels ICs for Classe gear
FWIW, IMHO, the differences between 'standard' design cables is more about how you percieve them than any thing that spec's can predict. I would recommend that you try to identify cables that are benchmark in the price range you can easily afford....
I get 70 of the Live Symphony Experience at home
When I go to a concert at Symphony Hall I get 100% of a live music experience. Good enuf for me.When I go into my music room and crank up the audio system I get 100% of a recorded music 'experience', at least within the capabilities of my set up t...
