Need Kt88s Genelex? or Shuguang?
What aspect are you trying to 'up-grade'. Tone? FR? Clarity? For example, I use SED KT88's on one amp which may be a tad needy of some upper bass warmth and a little upper mid's and highs 'sparkle' but I use SED 6550's in another amp where I need t...
Who likes LATIN JAZZ?
French fries, FWIW I find very little wrong with you stating your preferences in Latin jazz, any jazz, pop or classical! We all have them. I'm not entranced by long showy congo drums solo's either (but I've got some African drumming that just ligh...
Norah Jones a tinge short
Jswarnke, Couldn't agree with you more about Butler. Excellent! I didn't read all of the posts carefully but I didn't notice any mention of Mary Stallings, Rene Marie, or for that matter Shirley Horn - of course these are jazz singers not pop/rock...
Your Favorite Classical Music Recordings
Based on your comments about solo piano music I would suggest that you consider the following for exploration -1)Brahms Intermezzi Op117 (etc) by Idit Biret on Naxos2)Chopin Nocturnes by Ivan Moravec on Non-Such3)Debussy Preludes by Paul Jacobs on...
Who likes LATIN JAZZ?
If you like some 'vintage' Latin jazz get Stan Getz's "The Girl from Ipanema - The Bossa Nova Years" a 4CD set put out by Verve. this will transport you back a few years to the time when this music was extremely popular.
Your Favorite Classical Music Recordings
Rushton, Thanks for the reminder about the '"Best Recommendations" list. I looked at the first list for classical beginners and still consider it an excellent starting point. In the future I'll simply refer folks new to classical, and looking for ...
Your Favorite Classical Music Recordings
J_evege, Your post is clear, but evidentially mine was not. It was not my intent to discourage anyone from responding to your thread. IMHO your thread was all too effective in doing that within its own construction. The purpose of my post was to e...
Is cheap, smooth, digital sound possible?
Jolida has a relatively 'cheap' CDP which is capable of very good and warm sound. An excellent budget TUBED CDP. But if you want really(!) cheap that is probably a few dollars above your expectaions.
Your Favorite Classical Music Recordings
Tough assignment considering that it is likely that most recommendations wouldn't be appreciated (useful). We really don't know what composers you are attracted to. Nor do we know what periods interest you.We really don't know what styles of classi...
TESLA E88CC 6922 Tubes shorting out???
Interesting, I went thru a bunch of low noise Tesla's from the early 90's w/out any pre-mature failures except when I used them in my SP10. I have since (the SP10) used them primarily in amps and they were not stressed. All were new stock and I st...
TESLA E88CC 6922 Tubes shorting out???
If you are referring to JJ/Teslas, not old Tesla's, the current production tubes are just not rugged, and/or the quality control is not perfect. In my experience using them in a CDP they have a warm tone with full but not tight bass and softened h...
Your favorite Sheherazade LP ?
Don't overlook Rushtons 2d nomination. Reiner and the CSO, is IMHO, more exciting and an outstanding recording. One of the great RCA Living Stereo's. It can't be beat! And audiophiles will nod their approval as well.Beecham's is also excellent and...
How to install a 120 Volt Cooling Fan?
I have used 120v fans. First they are quite noisy when operated without a speed control. The put out a lot of air, most of which you really don't need, and the air flow causes noise. You will need to get a 120v 'fan' control (a light dimmer won't ...
Tyler Acoustics Linbrook Signature Monitors?
I was talking about the larger Linbrook Signature System, one piece as opposed to two piece unit. My Bolero's were new in Sep 07. I have no doubt that the Linbrook monitors are all that you say they are. I thought you were talking about the larger...
Tyler Acoustics Linbrook Signature Monitors?
Jimmy, FWIW Silverline Bolero's put my Linbrook Sig Systems (1 piece) in the closet 7 months ago and they haven't come out. I listen only to jazz and classical. They are smaller, better looking and sound more resolved, smooth, and only maybe give ...
