Is it OK to place speakers behind me ? If it is OK to you then how could anyone argue. Personally, if I had to listen to music in an non-'audiophile' set up, such as coming from the side or rear, I would reduce it to a mono signal/source, or just putting the speakers next to each other...
what percentage of us really knows sound LOL folks! I just took a moment to read the OP's threads and answers. Very illuminating I think. Sure contains a lot of clues about where his post might have originated from. It sounds to me as if he might be one of the 'audiophiles' he is speakin...
Three best audiophile CD/LP in your collection The Magnificent Seven on the Koch label. An excellent demo record and a fun listen for movie buff's (not a soundtrack) as well as those not inclined to classical music, but who want something orchestral that is big and boisterous. Excellent perfor...
Can a broken leg from a tube be soldered and used? Ihcho, A belated question. How long are the stubs on the damaged tube. If they are long enuf to make good contact in the sockets that may be good enuf. The actual contact area is usually closer to the glass envelope than at the base of the pins. F...
Would center channel benefit audio only room? Orpheus10, Just start a fire in the fire place. The rising heat waves will taking the sound waves with them and you will thusly have great soundstage height. And you will have a pretty fire to watch and not think about that hole in the wall so muc...
Can a broken leg from a tube be soldered and used? I've never tried it, but consider if you could and did what a PITA it would be if the solder joint broke when you were removing the tube from its socket. Buy a new one. :-)
woofer pumping No one has mentioned that the probable cause of the woofer pumping is a mis-match between the cartridge and the arm. This will do it every time. It is a arm mass/cartridge compliance issue you should investigate. There is nothing wrong with using ...
Ohm Walsh Micro Talls: who's actually heard 'em? Re flat frequency response at the listening position.Every time I've heard cones in boxes that promised something like FFR +/- 2db a 2 meters for example, they were just bright as hell, and even more so if they had a strong off axis response. That...
Dealing with a large TV between speakers Kijanki, I think what you need to cover that TV is not sound deadening materials, but diffusive materials. That is what works for me. I've never liked long wall placement sound, period, but like you if I had to live with it and I had your issues, ...
Thiel CS3.6 Unsound, I used (and still do) an ARC SP10II. It was revelatory in its hey day. I wasn't so wild about the matching D115II though. Phono stage is still pretty good. And if I ever find some mint SA 1's I'll buy them just for the nostalgia effect if...
Dealing with a large TV between speakers Probably not the response you want, but I can see a way to improve your depth of image etc. Put them on the short wall. The only problem would be the left speaker would probably have to be in a location that would interfere with entering the room....
Cost to treat a room? Yes it is true. BTW Room treatments do not really change frequency response of audio equipment so much as room treatments will reduce or remove the audible effects of reflections off the walls. That can make it sound better or not depending what t...
Tube Preamp for Solid State Monoblocks? Tube pre-amps can be an excellent substitution for a ss one depending on what you expect or want to accomplish by adding one. What about adding a tube pre-amp do you think would 'suit you well'. The reason I ask is because the answers you might re...
Thiel CS3.6 My Thiels sounded like crap until I finlly bought a Threshold SA3. Only 50 watts but high current and smooth. Lovely combo. One of the stupidest things I've done in audio was to sell this amp when I sold my speakers because my new speakers needed ...
noise from light dimmers and ceiling fan speed con I think it is the rheostat that controls the dimmer or the fan speed that causes the problem. If the 'digital' control doesn't have one then it might. Nothing wrong with trying one if it is matched up to the requirements of your lights/fan. A chea... |
