How do you chose speakers based on room size?
Saki, Speaker placement (including the rooms that they might work well in) is critical for just about every speaker design. Some folks pursue set up diligently until they have optimized it, some more than others until their significant other or th...
How do you chose speakers based on room size?
Different speaker types (dynamic/cones, panels/line sources, and electrostatics, all have different set up/room size requirements. Generally in a smallish room, for optimal set up, panels, line sources, and electrostatics will not work as well as ...
New House: Audio room/Office
Brian, I was just looking at your system photos. Not too complex. In a new environment you might just try to position your components apart from your speakers (use longer cables) to reduce the dominant effect of speaker/components, and simply mark...
New House: Audio room/Office
I have a room dimension or build out issue which causes a suck out of 6db at 40/50 hz and a small rise at 80hz of about 3db. Otherwise my FR is fairly flat thru the mid-range. I should probably be happy. This might be corrected if the room was a b...
New House: Audio room/Office
I was lucky (I think!) I designed my own home. When I built my home I set up a floor plan with a more traditional living room and family room well separated from each other. The thought was that it was a floor plan that would resell easily to anyo...
Prima Luna Dialogue 2 or Cayin A100?
You can't go far wrong with either pick but I think the Dialogue may be a bit faster/tighter than the Cayin. Note I own a A100T but not the Dialogue, just a Prologue 3/5 combo and a PL1. The sound of either can be greatly affected by power tube se...
tuner better than turntable ? thread.
Syntax, LOL, you are right on! Careful reading of the FM site, as well as a few others, substantiate what you have pointed out. Finding a reviewer who is is actually an 'audiophile' with the attendant sensitivities to the QUALITY and TONE of the s...
Cartridge recommendations
Curio, The Grado cartridges are not known for great shielding so if your turn tables motor is not shielded you'll get a hum especially as the cartridge moves closer to the motor. I've had several tables which you simply could not use a Grado on an...
"Warmer" Speaker - $600-1000 Range
Re Silverline Minuets - I heard them 'stacked' (two pair) and driven by a modest Monarchy amp (though modified I believe) and an old and also modest CDP, at Silverline's shop a couple of years ago. Alan certainly has an excellent ear for creating ...
Scheherazade by Rimsky-Korsakov
I agree that Soulbrass' selections are excellent, but for sheer beauty don't miss Beecham's version. Maybe not quite so much drama.
What are the Best FM tuners?
Since no one else has mentioned it, I recently replaced my Accuphase T101 with an Accuphase T100. A substantial improvement - not as 'bright', better bass, and more highly resolved. Better reception as well. On those occasions when the signal is h...
tuner better than turntable ? thread.
I don't understand the foundation for the OP.I've got a fairly decent tuner (by any standard) without mods. Are you suggesting that I can mod this tuner as you did and actually 'improve' (not just change) its performance? Are you sure? Or have you...
First Annual " Whaddya Get? for Xmas "
A cyro'd lump of coal. After I pay for all of the X-mas excess I'll get a new amp to burn it in. :-)
interconnect suggestions
I use Blue Jeans @$30 a meter w/my Accuphase T100 and I do not feel that it gets in the way at all. Most broadcast signals do however (get in the way of SOTA sound which would justify better IC's) so I don't reach for the moon.
12ax7's to roll
Some Telefunekin wantabe's - EI 12AX7E (long grey plate). No longer manufactured as EI is out of business but they can be found. An excellent and balanced sound. The only reservation I have is that they could be microphonic in a sensitive (i.e. a ...
