Cost to treat a room?
Yes it is true. BTW Room treatments do not really change frequency response of audio equipment so much as room treatments will reduce or remove the audible effects of reflections off the walls. That can make it sound better or not depending what t...
Tube Preamp for Solid State Monoblocks?
Tube pre-amps can be an excellent substitution for a ss one depending on what you expect or want to accomplish by adding one. What about adding a tube pre-amp do you think would 'suit you well'. The reason I ask is because the answers you might re...
Thiel CS3.6
My Thiels sounded like crap until I finlly bought a Threshold SA3. Only 50 watts but high current and smooth. Lovely combo. One of the stupidest things I've done in audio was to sell this amp when I sold my speakers because my new speakers needed ...
noise from light dimmers and ceiling fan speed con
I think it is the rheostat that controls the dimmer or the fan speed that causes the problem. If the 'digital' control doesn't have one then it might. Nothing wrong with trying one if it is matched up to the requirements of your lights/fan. A chea...
Cost to treat a room?
What does it cost? Well, doesn't that depend on what your room needs? If you can't define what problem you are trying to cure you are getting ahead of yourself to assume your room will just sound better by using commercially available treaatments....
One speaker putting out -3db less?
At what frequencies does this 3db loss appear? As Herman suggests you might just have a difference caused by boundary reinforcement unless the loss is across the bandwidth. Also, are you getting a substantial shift in the center of the soundstage ...
Stylus Buildup?
Lint. The air is littered with it. Using a stylus brush?
st-70 tube flash help
Many European tubes flash on turn on. Its notmal, and its not just Amperex. My EI's flash - some do, some don't, but its normal. Use your amp.
More female vocals
Mary Stallings, Rene Marie, and Laverne Butler are excellent JAZZ singers. Each very different but they are not warmed up pop singers! :-) You should try them if you can. BTW, Etta Jones is great. If you haven't got it there is a recent compilatio...
Tube flash
Jaffeassc, "so I assume...." You know what they say about what happens when you assume........:-)Next time you talk to CJ ask them what the bias setting programed into the amp actually is. After they tell you ask them what the bias setting is in t...
Tube flash
I'm not a CJ expert (in fact I've never owned one) but as I recall the CJ Premier 12 was originally designed around a 6550 tube, not an EL34. It also has a manual bias system where you turn a pot until a LED turns on. If I'm correct so far read on...
Why terminations on speaker cable?
Kijanki, Although some may think otherwise, I've never been a tinman myself. :-) BTW I agree.
Cartridge upgrade, something warmer
Get a tube phono pre-amp and dial in your own tone. BTW my Glider is not thin, quite nice in fact. Not too fast, not to slow, not too hot, not too cold, like baby bear's bed it's just right. SincerelyGoldilocks
Need help picking between 6550 and KT88 tubes
It is hard, if possible, to give you an intelligent answer. Differences between some brands of 6550's and differences between some brands of KT88's can be as great as the differences between the 6550's and KT88's. Generally speaking 6550's are mor...
Why terminations on speaker cable?
I like bare wire connections, BUT one must be careful. Multi stranded heavy gauge wire requires some torque when tightening down the nuts. It needs more compression than is readily apparent. What appears tight can be loose the next day and fairly ...
