Jazz vocals recommendations please
Some of my favorite contemporary jazz singers are Laverne Butler (Blues in the City/MaxJazz), Rene Marie (Live at Jazz Standard/MaxJazz), and Mary Stallings (Live at the Village Vanguard/MaxJazz).And if you like Krall's style, you MUST hear Shirle...
most articulate speaker
IMHO properly designed cone speakers, and maybe horns, combined with the right amp, can do a much better job than electrostatics or panels, if for no other reason than they do not depend on the room dimensions and set up so much for their reproduc...
upsampling CDP's for $1500? Big difference?
I also have a Raysonic with optional upsampling. Unlike Dopogue though I find that the upsampling can, on occasion, sound better than 16/44. This usually occurs when I play old(er) CD's. In 16/44 they can sound bright/edgy and the upsampling mode ...
Which 6922?
In my experience the JJ's are the warmest of the bunch. I use them in a couple of CDP's. Actually there are not that many new production 6922's. The EH's are fairly good, certainly quiet and rugged and have good bass. Don't know about anything fro...
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
Bryon, I would like to apologize to you for my acts of hostility, in what ever form they appeared. For the most part my hostile remarks were the result of a premature conclusion that you were a Troll, not just an audiophile wanting to revive and d...
Ia a good amp more important than a good DAC?
Sink your real money in the components which have the greatest prospect for longevity. Speakers and amp (integrated) if carefully chosen will last a long time. Sources seem to change more often as do formats and good ones are fairly easy to find a...
Primaluna and Rogue
Hawk28, FWIW the PL 3 has a high output impedence (3500 ohms) and matching to an amp could be problematic. In my system it sounded best with amps (other than PL amps) that had an input impedence of 100K ohms. There is an old review on 6moons and a...
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
Dgarretson, YOU are as sharp as a tack! Love your response and sense of humor as well. I have been hectoring a bit (too much) haven't I. But troll, I don't think so. I thought the term Troll was reserved for folks who posted threads on controversi...
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
Viagra and sex! I thought that Shadrone's comments were the highlights of this thread as it now stands. Frankly I think I'd rather read 'Atlas Shrugged', 'The Fixer', or 'War and Peace'. Atlas Shrugged because I'm still looking for John Galt, The ...
hardwood floor and speaker
I use a 8x11 Persian rug on a pad and placed in the listening 'triangle'. The speakers are on the hardwood floor just off the carpet. It does damp floor reflections. Now if I could just put one of the ceiling. :-)BTW folks, re using coins - this m...
hardwood floor and speaker
Don't make your wife unhappy! I have high quality wood floors and I use hockey pucks. Helps with a little bit of isolation from vibes traveling in either direction and are stable and cheap. Caveat, I don't think spikes really add much to sonic's e...
How do you judge your system's neutrality?
Shadrone, You are right. I put 4 of those little blue pills adjacent to some EL84's. After the amp warmed up it sounded like an octet of KT90's. Wonder what a picture of Penelope Cruz would do................Sure would keep my hand out of the blue...
Time to change speakers again
Sure. I did that after I went thru a bunch of dynamic speaker systems, I tried horns, panels, then electrostats. Now that I've satisfied my curiosity, I'm back to some fairly refined dynamics. For me it was a trip of discovery and I found that it ...
A new CDP after my Rega Apollo or a new DAC?
Mst, No. My unit sounds fairly good after about 15 minutes. Good enuf that after that I'm just listening to the music.
Live vs home system???
I voice my home system to sound realistic (not real!) on vocals, solo acoustic instruments, and small groups playing acoustic instruments, in an appropriate room. That's good enuf for me. With that done, usually large orchestral etc sounds good en...
