Nottingham service & arm setup Semi, It is inherent in the design, you just can't adjust the azimuth, and that is why Nottingham didn't mention it. FWIW you can dick around with anti-skate a bit and that might help and you could always try maxing out on the cartridges VTF range...
Nottingham service & arm setup I believe this is a 'unipiviot' design and you do NOT have a provision for adjusting azimuth in this type of design. Just a WAG. Why not ask Nottingham to be sure.
Is analog supposed to be so noisy? Try moving your interconnects from the TT to the pre-amp and see if the hum changes. Often just passing the IC's anywhere near a power supply (including PC's) will produce a hum. Phono IC's can be a real problem sometimes!Oh, have you located your...
Chopin Fantasie Impromptu, Opus 66 Hi Jult52, Noted that you were referring to Rachmaninoff's Sonata not Chopins. I just happened to have Birets Rachmaninoff's recordings and played some of them this AM. including the Sonata #2. Different than the Chopin, perhaps a bit more balance...
When did you ever hear a system sound so life-like John Atkinson of Stereophile fame recently undertook an analysis of the sound of a recorded piano recital and THE live recital itself. He wrote about his experience and conclusions in the Feb issue of Stereophile. Interesting reading even if the c...
How are Mullards supposed to sound? Drrsutliff's post raises a question. It is logical to assume you are referring to the Power tubes as these usually wear out first. Are you referring to power tubes or the 12AX and 12AU's? Personally I select power tubes first and then fine tube th...
Chopin Fantasie Impromptu, Opus 66 Jult52, FWIW I sort of listen to performances more than sound, so one must always look elsewhere for sonic spectaculars, but just for the fun of it I put the recording on that you mentioned. On the system I used, Primaluna 3/5, Wadia 302, and Silv...
Best CD of Chopin's Concerto's Found on either LP's or CD's, Claudio Arrau's performances with the LPO conducted by Eliahu Inbal are my favorites by some margin and are certainly 'romantic'. These recordings also include Krakowiak Op14 which I feel is essential listening, and a...
Prima Luna Dialogue 2 or Cayin A100? Dramapsycho, As indicated in my first post, tubes make a huge difference and I have not cared for OEM tubes in Primaluna products at all! But it is synergy thing and its hard to recommend tube type/brand replacements without having heard your syst...
Depairately seeking 1980's Sovtek 6922's The 6h23EB's from the 80's sound much the same as the Sovteks from the 80's. I use them in a pre-amp in preference to the 80's Sovteks but it is a very close call. The 6h23's might be a bit more rugged, so they say, but I have had no failures of e...
Chopin Fantasie Impromptu, Opus 66 Well, just for the fun of it I pulled Perahia's out and played it. It has been a long time since I last listened to it. Perhaps I should have mentioned it in my initial post to Jax2. It's quite nice indeed, if a bit on the soft dreamy side which i...
How do you chose speakers based on room size? Saki, Speaker placement (including the rooms that they might work well in) is critical for just about every speaker design. Some folks pursue set up diligently until they have optimized it, some more than others until their significant other or th...
How do you chose speakers based on room size? Different speaker types (dynamic/cones, panels/line sources, and electrostatics, all have different set up/room size requirements. Generally in a smallish room, for optimal set up, panels, line sources, and electrostatics will not work as well as ...
New House: Audio room/Office Brian, I was just looking at your system photos. Not too complex. In a new environment you might just try to position your components apart from your speakers (use longer cables) to reduce the dominant effect of speaker/components, and simply mark...
New House: Audio room/Office I have a room dimension or build out issue which causes a suck out of 6db at 40/50 hz and a small rise at 80hz of about 3db. Otherwise my FR is fairly flat thru the mid-range. I should probably be happy. This might be corrected if the room was a b... |
