Power amplifiers with selector Class of operation?
roberjerman, whether you think so, or not, speaker switching, brings the speaker output wiring, to the front, and then, back, to the rear of the amplifier, and, this, limits current, affects damping, and can only add / pick up noise. In your very ...
Power amplifiers with selector Class of operation?
I never liked switches. Why do so many Japanese power amplifiers and integrated amplifiers " still " use speaker switching ? ( I know this is different that the bias switching being talked about ).
Can someone figure out the gain of this amp?
Abery, I am not sure why you do not just try a " better quality " passive pre ( my Luminous is totally invisible, and fabulous ). I am not stating additional gain ( preamp ) is bad, but speakers such as yours, and the high gain of the STA200 ( not...
Parasound A23 amp output fused??
Yogiboy, the sub works with another amplifier, as the OP indicated. OP, If the amplifier was in bridged mode driving the sub, the HSU might have an impedance that is lower than the bridged amp can handle.
Parasound A23 amp output fused??
Been quite awhile since I have been inside an A23. If I recall, the amp does not use output fuses, but instead uses output relays. You should hear these relays, within 3 to 5 seconds, click on when you turn on the amp. If you do not hear them clic...
What Class D amps will drive a 2 ohm load
And still, no one commented, as likely, did not read, the two reviews I mentioned were worth reading, having to do with the Merrill 118s ), on page one of this thread.
What Class D amps will drive a 2 ohm load
FYI. The Merrill 114 is a single chassis, stereo, power amplifier. It has been mentioned a few times here, stating the 114 amps are mono blocks. Talk about 5th grade reading levels...lol.....why can't discussions of audio stuff, hifi stuff and mus...
Hi-Fi Lo-Fi
n80.. a very honest and admirable response. I still believe, at " retail "pricing, your gear that was acquired, was over 20 K, based on my familiarity with the gear, as well as some research. And, never hard feelings. The past is the past, an I en...
Hi-Fi Lo-Fi
dsper, you spent $6200. You over paid. I could have gotten it all for $3851. 23, lol. To the OP....you and I have been on a roller coaster here, with many " differences of opinion ". Generally, with your " doctor stuff ", pointing fingers at me, a...
Anybody know what happened at JOB...
The majority of woofers, in the majority of speakers, send information, back into the amplifier, called EMF. Many articles on the subject. Some manufactures believe in the concept, some do not. I have always been an advocate of biwiring, and, pass...
What is wrong with a sub?
The simplistic statement by, once again, our eric squires, says it all. Purchasing the " correct " ones, and the " set up ", is the key. Subs ( Wawa, makes excellent Hoagies, and this is what they are referred to ) are needed in almost every situa...
What Class D amps will drive a 2 ohm load
George, no negative comments here, please, but my point I am about to make is very relevant to the discussion, and just another person’s perspective. As most here who know me, I go wayyyyyy back with PWK and his Klipsch Heritage products. I have o...
Does any one have experience with a high-end amp switch or the Luxman AS-55
A switch such as this, no matter the quality, will decrease detail, damping and overall sq, in my experience. Several high end dealers I worked with, used switching in the lower level sound rooms, but never, in a million years, would use switching...

Speaker wants 100 watt RMS. Is 40 watt tube OK?
I have seen speakers being driven with too much power, as well, causing destruction to the drivers, and sometimes, crossovers. Lets keep in mind, that the volume control setting on a preamp, does not determine the wattage used, of a connected amp....
