Why is solid state more popular when tubes are better?
This kind of thread is the reason I spend less and less time on Audiogon. My best, MrD.
Passive preamp
OP, What do your ears tell you ? BTW, this topic has been discussed, ad nauseam. As some say, it can work, and as others say, it does not. As audphile 1 stated above, everything matters, and as he suggested, you can eliminate your Frida ( sorry, I...
Steve Guttenberg finally reviews the Eminent Technology LFT-8b loudspeaker.
Speakers ( and the room ) are the most specific of importance, in contributing to the sound one achieves, and it boils down to what you like, and what you want. I have owned Maggies, Apogee Duettas, and ML CLSs, and I understand why people love th...
Poll: Most impactful component
For me, it has been my Klipsch Lascalas. I did work on getting rid of the nasties inherent in the design, with great success, and they do everything I want them to do, connecting me with the musicianship / performance, of EVERY recording I listen ...
Can you give me your speaker suggestions?
If you still own the H3s, I would damp the mid horn, tweeter horn, and the woofer basket, with Dynamat, and use the factory enclosures. I would buy a Class A, ss amp ( I can recommend a few if you go in this direction ), and if you like tubes, use...
running 2 of the same amps into 1 pair of speakers [ first watt J2's]
To the OP......If your speakers are bi-wirable / bi-amp able ( have 4 connectors on the back, 2 for bottom end and 2 for mid/top end ), 2 identical amps, as the pair of Js, would be best off to passively, vertically bi-amp. One amp per speaker. On...
Been intrigued by this power amp since it was introduced. Yes, another " D " thread.
So, I did have a Warp One here for a couple of months ( bought new from Wally ), and, I did not like it in my system. My best bud also bought one...and he loves it. The only " D " amp I have not tried, still, is a GAN. I am currently enjoying, imm...

@frogman ....+1..... the " playing " of the instruments, through the conductor's direction, is why I attend performances. I listen for the playing, through my rig, as well. My best. MrD
Why are these called 5 way binding posts? I count four!
It was explained to me many years ago by an amp manufacturer, whom I forget, because you were able to use a spade ( or loop/hole ) to the shaft, and a banana plug, simultaneously........Is this true ? I am only repeating what I heard. MrD.

@viber6 , my friend.....as always, your personal listening experiences are yours, and that is all....yours. Your system, as good as you feel it is, would not satisfy me, the way my system satisfies me, as I look for and appreciate other important ...

If we go back to the start of the thread and read the original post by mikeydee, I believe the statement was all about the enjoyment, and the " impact " the experience made to him. We come to the argument that the best seat in the house is at the ...
Best musician in the world?
For those into electric guitar, check out Matteo Mancuso.....
IcePower1200AS: Who has heard or has them, with what system components? Do you love them?
@tweak1...I tried a Warp One ( purchased new from Underwood ), and I was quite disappointed with it. A buddy of mine purchased one, and he loves it.

@mikeydee , " He used dynamics in his band ". AB & the JMs must have been a wonderful experience as well. Every live, unamplified performance of any kind of music I experienced, showed an amazing amount of dynamics, which has not been duplicat...

Dynamics, both micro and macro, are truly an important and major characteristic of music reproduction, live, and through an audio rig. I am not speaking of rock concert loud ( which can be distorted to the ears ).......As the op says, to be able t...
