Adding a sub woofer?
REL is the current fad in subs, at least until the next one comes along.  The solution with subs is to use subs. As in, more than one. Use four and no matter what they are you are practically guaranteed of excellent awesome bass like you never hea...
Will this sensitivity for a MC input on an amp be enough for my cartridge?
You will be fine as far as volume goes. But in all other respects you will probably be very disappointed in the sound. Its just very hard to believe the built in phono stage will be anywhere near PH6 level.  OMG just had a look at that monstrosity...
amp repair cost too high??
Resale (used prices) don't factor in much. Probably a term for it, kind of like what economists call the fallacy of the sunk cost. Anyway, the amp you have cannot be compared to some random used amp, because you have no idea what that other amp ha...
Thoughts on the most difficult instruments for speakers to reproduce?
Its not just speakers. These things are difficult for every component in the chain. As my system has gotten much better over the past year or so one of the best most unexpected surprises has been the way every recording sounds so much better now. ...
Listening room setup + library
If the books are all the same size, lined up straight and even then they're just another wall. If the books are different sizes, lined up unevenly, a few here stuck further in, a few sticking out, then you've turned them into a diffuser panel.   A...
Has anything changed with Grado cartridge re-tipping? No more Needle Doctor....
Inner groove is tracking. Stylus wear would be evident all across the record. What does it look like under magnification?   If you just want a re-tip why not Soundmsith?
Budget Tube Preamp ($2000)
Your speakers are 90dB which is great. I don't advise on separates as they're too low value for me. For less than you will have in your separates you could have a PL or Raven integrated that will not need the extra interconnect and power cord to s...

Yeah. Its no contest. What's really funny, for all the arguments around here (among audiophiles!) what things matter and what people can hear, in my experience its like your friend, they hear these things easily and obviously. Every single time.  ...

A friend at work came over one day she wanted a stereo for her husband for his birthday, what can we do? So I got her requirements and room info, got everything together, brought it all over and set it up so when he came home it was a total surpr...
Phonostage recommendations under $3K
sumadoggie- I took delivery of a VTPH-2A about a month ago (running a Rega P10 through it). It is lovely and lives up to all of the praise heaped upon it in this forum. Keith also deserves all the kind words mentioned about him. It’s worthwhile to...
Room Acoustic treatments VS Dirac Room correction
What exactly are you trying to improve?
Does anyone do off-axis listening as well as Magicos?
I have tried and tried to get speakers to listen off-axis. But no matter what I do they only speak, never listen.
HELP Isolating a problem - preamp or power amp
No, clipping would be real loud but no way should there be cracking and popping. Now it really sounds like its the amp.
1st Post Intro & Ramblings
The most satisfying and really enjoyable systems I ever heard were the ones I built for friends and family where the total budget was $1200 to $2500. These were complete systems- power cords, interconnects, speaker cables, Cones under everything- ...
HELP Isolating a problem - preamp or power amp
Yes of course you can. Just be aware if the CDP has variable output to turn it down. Or it might be really loud. But even if you don’t have that you can still test, just use a track that starts at a low volume, just in case. Generally speaking the...
