HELP!!! I need a “GOOD-CHEAP” preamp solution???
As yogiboy stated, Quicksilver has been around for 35 years. I am taking interest in their integrated and headphone amp. Only reason I own the Jolida Fusion over it is that I knew a dealer that provided me the Jolida highly discounted. It also has...
HELP!!! I need a “GOOD-CHEAP” preamp solution???
There is a used Quicksilver linestage preamplifier for sale here on AG. Asking price is $559. Less than 2 years old. If I was looking for a tube pre under $1500 I would give it a try. Could always resale it if it does not meet my needs. Does not h...
Bookshelf passive speaker that doesnt focus on bass
OK, I am curious. What is the rest of your system?
Amp - preamp or integrated
At the price point you are considering ($5000) there are integrated amps that are quite competitive with same amount spent on separates. The issue I see is that your are considering the purchase of different speakers. There are many amps that can ...
HELP!!! I need a “GOOD-CHEAP” preamp solution???
Two all tube preamps within your budget: Quicksilver Line stage ($999), Jolida Fusion ($1350).  Neither have phonotage. The Quicksilver has some what lower gain than the Jolida and has 100 ohm output impedance. Would mate well with your amp. I own ...
Nuforce STA200
Yes, I have enjoyed the SYS using it as a stand alone passive pre with both the STA200 and Dynaco ST-70. I have not yet tried it as an attenuator between my Jolida  Fusion tube pre and the STA200. This I will do in the future and report back. The ...
DRAGON FLY RED BY AUDIO QUEST COMPUTER CONTROL PANEL SETTINGS
I believe the question was NOT wether the dragonfly would make an improvement, but wether the upsampling would. OP can try and decide for him/herself. I believe that the DAC will make an improvement used either way. I also believe the level of imp...
Best return for the money, system upgrade suggestions please.
How do you use the cambridge Dacmajic plus. Of your active components it seems to me that it is the weakest link. Does the Cambridge Azure CD player have digital inputs?

I agree with freediver and would keep sample rate at 44.1. Would not 'ask' the dragonfly to upscale.
A decent preamp to complete my setup?
Forgot to add that I believe the recommendation for the Complete Guide by Harley is 'spot on'. The best single reference for home audio I know of.Also, Blue Jeans LC-1 interconnects are great for passive use. 12pF/foot. Can be ordered for very sho...
A decent preamp to complete my setup?
Wow! Just saw millercarbon's post, 2 minutes prior to my post. My primary system budget pretty much equates to his proposed ratio. Given $2500 I would probably spend somewhat more on speakers and amplification and less on the cables/cones, and avo...
A decent preamp to complete my setup?
I agree that the Mani is considered a high quality budget phonostage and would be a good choice. It is very flexible regarding cartridge gain loading. The 4 gain settings, ranging between 30 and 59dB, would allow use of the Saga in either active o...
A decent preamp to complete my setup?
One could use a separate phonostge into a Schiit SYS passive into the STA200. Passive and Phonostage could easily be had for $300 (SYS=$50).I own the SYS and the STA 200. The STA200 delivers full power with 0.65 volt input.
Why the facination with integrated amps?
So many paths to walk on, and so many reasons to take any one of them.
Need small size speakers for fireplace.
Well. seems I am a little late on getting back. I have been using the Dali Zensor 1s since the last post. More recently have tried the NHT Super Zeros. The Dali's are far superior for music, however I am not sure the NHT's don't serve as well for ...
