Amplifier design parameters required for a good match for high (16+) ohm speakers?
Rodman, my ST-70 has the 5AR4 rectifier tube made by GE, and the 7199 driver tubes made by Conn in USA. Currently using JJ EL34 output tubes. I know the JJ EL34 could be replaced with a smoother tube. Any particular Mullards you might recommend?Ra...
Which integrated amp do you suggest?
Sorry, It must have sold. I see it is no longer offered. I would check out the Yamaha A-S501 and the 701. Often found discounted online. The 801 has USB input however is above your stated budget.
Which integrated amp do you suggest?
There is a used Yamaha A-S501 for sale here on AG. It has DAC and Phonostage. DAC lacks USB input however so a USB/SPDIF converter would be required. They can be had for ~$100. I use a M@Tech hiface which plugs directly into computer USB port ther...
Amplifier design parameters required for a good match for high (16+) ohm speakers?
Rodman, Thanks much for your input and the link. I can't believe I did not find this review myself. It seems that the input impedance of this amp is not the reason I didn't find it as enjoyable using a Schiit SYS passive pre as with my Jolida acti...
Amplifier design parameters required for a good match for high (16+) ohm speakers?
Thanks for the responses. I am using a Dynaco ST-70 (35wpc) into Contrast Model One As3 speakers having a rating of 16ohms and 92dB sensitivity.  I believe the sensitivity rating might be a little high, even considering that 92dB equates to 89dB w...
Help Please With Choosing An Integrated Or Separates For My Secondary Sysytem
Seems you have no need for onboard DAC or phonostage. Therefore I would put my money on a line level only integrated. Music Direct has new NAD326BEEs for sale at $450. Also the NAD 356 here on AG looks good to me.
8-16 ohm budget speakers
OK, I have been using the Contrasts with my ST-70 as driven 1st by a Schiit SYS passive pre and then with my Jolida Fusion tube preamp. The ST-70/Contrast pairing came across a little lean, lacking in bass when driven by the passive pre. I am not ...
Upgrading Integrated Amplifier - Musical Fidelity?
There is a used Yahama A-S501 for sale here on AG. Has Phono and digital inputs as well as sub out.
Splitter question
Given your situation, I would be inclined to use the SYS. Has the two inputs you need. Would probably use it full open for vinyl playback which likely has a lower voltage output. One could turn the SYS volume down for digital playback such that th...
Volume level for slightly overpowered amp
You must also consider the source input voltage. The volume setting that drives the amplifier stage in an integrated amplifier to full rated output will depend on this. With digital sources this often occurs prior to the volume control being 80% o...
Best return for the money, system upgrade suggestions please.
Glad it worked out for you.
Pathos Classic One MKiII vs. my separates
I would not describe my Pathos as 'Digital' bright. I still own the Jolida preamp and BEL 1001 amp. Couldn't part with the BEL. Use the Pathos in a second system, though could have easily remained in the primary.
Wolfson dac
The Onkyo 7030 seems to be a very well built (possibly over built) product at it's price point, weight is ~15 lbs. Customer feedback is very positive.  If I was looking to purchase a new player under $300 I would probably buy it. I am not in that ...
Integrated under 1k (hopefully 500) for Wharfedale Dentons & Snell
Well, if listening at low levels in a small room, a quality 50wpc amp well drive any honestly rated 6-8 ohm speaker having 85-90dB sensitivity. Pairing the right one to a particular speaker to suit one's preferences is the key.I have owned the NAD...
smaller room monitors
I think that a Monitor speaker that is flat to 50hz would work great for your situation, near field listening, room that opens up, sub available. What is budget?
