Schiit Saga and headphones You would need a headphone amp with the Saga. The Schiit Magni headphone amp is inexpensive and very good. The Saga has 2 outputs so one could be used for headphone amp.
Used PreAmp around 1000 I looked up the Saga specs, Schiit states a gain of 1 (0dB) for both passive and active use. Sorry. Maybe my recollection was for the Freya, will have to go back and look it up.
Full range vs monitors with sub What is your room size?
Near-field speaker placement Yes, I treated my small room very much the same. Made panels from material purchased from ATS acoustics. Was able to pick up supplies from them as I live in Illinois. Very inexpensive to make.
Used PreAmp around 1000 I agree that you don't need the gain. The Saga can be used passive or with tube buffer which adds 8dB gain I believe. Thinking about getting one myself.
NAD D3045 vs NAD C268 for KEF LS50 - which amp for greatest synergy with KEF LS50? I have the NAD 356BEE in a second system. Previous to that I also owned the 326BEE. I made the swop for the extra power. Just enough to make it easier driving some speakers. The LS50s would probably be better served with the extra 35 NAD watts.
New CDP or standalone DAC...? Tom,I use an Adcom DVD-137 as a transport for music from CDs, SACDs, and DVDs(movies) my main system. My DAC is a Bryston BDA-1. I bought the Bryston for it had many coax digital inputs and knowing it did not have asychronous USB. I use a USB/SPDI...
Near-field speaker placement Ray, that is the beauty of it, the soundstage/imaging can extend beyond the small room boundaries. Having speakers placed along shorter wall allows for more space behind speakers and listener. Providing greater depth of field for soundstage. Abso...

New CDP or standalone DAC...? Hi Tom, a couple years later and I am still one decade beyond you in 'old school'. :-) Your looking at 60, I am turning 70 in June. We must embrace all ages and live them to the fullest. I see you have replaced your amplification. I had a Vincen...
Near-field speaker placement Yes, bass traps in a small room. Also small rooms are best served by speakers that don't attempt the lowest octave.
Near-field speaker placement If speakers are to be placed in front of the 9'wall (the front wall) this allows for greater distance behind speaker and listener. Toe in and sound panels at reflection points will allow for closer distance to side walls. Another acoustic improvem...
Near-field speaker placement One needs to experiment for one's self. Can you position speakers along either wall? I have found it best when speakers are placed forward of front wall and away from side walls. Listener should be forward of back wall. This obviously becomes diff...
Pulsars and the Mythical Armchair Speaker Maker All I know is that i am very interested in hearing a pair of the Pulsars. I plan to search out a dealer in the Midwest and have a visit.
Nuforce STA200 I use Blue Jeans LC-1 interconnects between source-SYS-STA200 as the LC-1 has very low capacitance. |
