Cambridge Audio Azur 740a paired with Dali Oberon 5's
I agree with noromance, if it sounds good, playing to the desired loudness level without strain then paring is fine. A more definitive answer would require more information. How large a room? Do you know the nominal and lowest impedance of the Dal...
Help with room treatment?
Sound absorption panels at reflexion points, behind speakers and behind listening chair will help. Also bass traps in corners behind speakers. Check out ATS Acoustics for DIY products. I made 2x4' panels from their Roxul Rockboard 2", burlap fabri...
Well ... The Lightbulb Just Went On!
Given that the electronic parameters between output and input of any two components differ, it does not surprise me that one might find different ICs to work best between them.
MORE Esoteric problems
I own a pair of Esoteric MG-10s. My grandson pushed the tweeter dome in on one. I called Esoteric and was told to contact TAD Electronics. This I did and got hold of Sal in service. I was told to send the damaged speaker to them and they would rep...
Questions on next steps with my power amp
Ok, so you want to play records, CDs, Tapes (cassette?) and stream from computer. This is no problem as there are many integrated amps (amp + preamp) that would allow for this and fit into your budget. Some have internal DAC, some have internal ph...
Questions on next steps with my power amp
Millercarbon has provided you with much good advice. I have a couple questions:Have you put the system together as is? The TT, Onkyo, and Klipsch speakers. How does it sound? Are the speakers ones you want to build a system around?
Good starter amp recommendation
Since you are willing to go with a 2-channel system, a wise decision IMO, purchase a quality 2-channel integrated amplifier and save any funds from the remainder of the $1000 for speaker upgrade. Consider using digital PCM output from TV for movie...
Near-field speaker placement
I don't believe a 3-way speaker will provide any advantage in dispersion over a 2-way speaker. There are many excellent 2-way speakers that provide a wide soundstage that can be had for $1500 (new or used). I use Esoteric MG-10s, 7 1/2" 2-way spea...
Moderately priced audio
One possible issue with the stereophile survey data is that it is likely that those readers having lower cost systems were less likely to respond. Would be nice to know the distribution of the data. I have had a subscription to Stereophile and TAS...
Upgrade integrated within the $600 - 1k Range
Vincent Audio makes a Tube Hybrid integrated, the SV500, which sells for just under $1000.  Sold by Audio Advisor. 4 analog inputs, Coax and optical digital inputs (said to be specifically for CD playback). You might wish to look into it.I once ow...
The under appreciated impedance curve
I agree that the slopes within the frequency plot should not be too steep. I believe an 8ohm nominal speaker plot should average ~8ohms and not dip below 4 ohms or reach greater than 16 ohms. Often this is not the case. I wish this  and phase angl...
Who is using their DAC as a preamp?
I am very interested in the use of the Project Prebox S2 as a pre. Please do share your findings. I believe you use it with a Nuforce STA200, correct?
Lightning quick DYNAMIC amp in the under $1000 range
aberyclark, just to be clear, did you use the Prebox s2 directly into the STA200, without SYS? I am asking as I thought about purchasing the prebox to use directly  with my STA200. Thanks.
Like to tweak my system
A quality recording on CD will greatly surpass the sonics one gets from Spotify. I use Spotify for finding new music to purchase, playback is accomplished via transport or computer file derived from CD.
Near-field speaker placement
The bottom octave is 20-40Hz, or to some 16-32Hz, frequency range. I was thinking of those speakers that have a -3dB down point just below 50Hz or -6dB below 40HZ.  Something in that range. Prevents excessive excitation of bass modes.  I get plent...
