Looking For Internet Radio Recommendations I've got a nice Sanyo unit sitting in storage you can have for a decent price. Think it was about $200 new.
SET Amp for Harbeth P7ES3 I'm using 30w class A tubes to drive your Harbeths. The Mastersound comes in 2 versions - the original is 15wpc, the newer one is 12wpc and the 'p' version is 24wpc. I'd feel comfortable with the latter - the others might be iffy, especially if yo...
Best optical cable from Apple TV to DAC Any good glass cable will do the trick. I've tried a few and there isn't much difference.Best value is Lifatec Silflex glass for about $70.
Purpose of using same speakers for surround? I don't use matching rears. When I've tried it heard no difference. You are right, as long as the sound effects channels are competent, good enough for me.I suppose if you want a visual match, that's OK.Perhaps those with a really high end system,...
Blu ray upgrade? I find Blueray offers much superior picture quality to DVD. If you are thinking of getting a BR player, it would make sense to go the route you are thinking - I'm not sure the sound will be substantially better, but it certainly won't be worse. I'...
Which TOWERs work well CLOSE to the BACK WALL? Definitely stay away from rear ported. The larger Proacs, Spendors and PMC lines use various bottom and/or transmission line venting. As far as the room goes, that has more to do with room treatments (drapes, furniture, carpet etc.) than the speaker...
Speaker Cables for Harbeth P7ES-3 -where to start? I own the C7's and have experimented with a few speaker cables. Cardas and Purist Audio are not a great match. I've just switched to all Audience cables, but am waiting for the speaker cables to arrive. In the meantime I've got an old run of Audio...
How good is the rel T1, for music Integrates very well with main speakers and nice and tight. But doesn't plunge the depths, maybe 25hz on a good day. You'll need the bigger Rel's to go deeper.I use the T7 for HT and am very happy with it.
Too many DAC decisions Well, having recently taken the plunge, I'm happy with the Calyx usb dac. Previously had the EE minimax, had borrowed the Moon 300d and considered the W4S, Zodiac.Heard the Weiss also, but found it a little too clinical for my tastes.I'm sure you'...
rel T1, any good for music? I own the newer T7. It doesn't go really deep, but does a very nice job of integrating with the main speakers. If you are looking for solid sub 25hz performance, you might need to go to one of their larger models.
Looking for a softer tube Mullard seems to be the go to tube for a softer presentation.
Preamplifier that supports 3D movie Most of the current pre/pros will support 3D. I think it's HDMI 1.4.No audio pre-amp will handle 3D, because pre-amps are analogue only, so they have no digital processing built in.You need a good quality pre-amp processor, such as the NAD T175.
Subwoofer size for 1500 cubic foot room I owned the Optimum 8 and used in a 13x15x8' room. You don't need any more. You might also consider the new Rel T7. I just switched to that and found, while not going quite as deep, it has a much nicer upper/midbass and integrates better. It vitall...
Cardas Golden Ref or the AU24e cables??? Different presentation. The Cardas is warmer, weightier and more rolled off in the top. The Audience is quicker, airy with a higher but less weighty bottom end.I just switched from Cardas to Audience. Using Class A tubes and Harbeths. Found Cardas...
USB or S/PDIF for Simaudio 100D I never tried one. I used glass toslink from my iMac - mini rca to toslink. Lifatec silflex works great for about $70. Less messy than USB to converter to DAC. |
