USB or S/PDIF for Simaudio 100D I owned the 100d. The USB input is not that great. Even the manual recommends against it. Better to go SPDif or toslink.
how much power If you find the amp is clipping/distorting at higher volumes or the bass is loose sounding, you may benefit from an amp with more current, not necessarily more watts. If you like what you hear you are fine.
Experience with Acoutic Zen, PAD and Furutech I owned Acoustic Zen Silver reference II interconnects and Purist audio Aqueos speaker/power cables.PAD is a very smooth cable, with a weighty bottom end. Acoustic Zen is very detailed and smooth with lots of texture. You really should have a liste...
Adding a sub - what will I loose? Look at Rel subs with the Neutrix cable. Hooks to your speaker cable jacks and works wonderfully.
Budget Chinese Tube amps - any good? I'm sure it varies by brand, just like things built elsewhere. Eastern Electric has a good reputation, as does Opera, and a variety of NA assembled brands designed and built by Chinese owners. Maybe you could query specific brands you are interest...
Piano and Trumpet can sound bright Kimber and metal dome tweeters are not a match made in heaven. Change the speakers or go to a smoother cable.
DAC recomendations $1500-$3000 I don't know about SACD, but I'm using the Calyx DAC which I find outstanding. Just USB and coax inputs though.I borrowed the moon 300d prior to getting the Calyx. The best I can say about it is 'vanilla'. Exaggerated highs and an otherwise bland ...
New DAC or new cable? Just go RCA at both ends. That what I did and it sounded great.
Speaker cable advice Coincidence.I just sold some cables, and will be waiting a few weeks for the new ones to arrive. In the meantime I had some old Audioquest type 4 cable laying around. So I hooked it up. While not terrible (not offensive), it certainly is a pretty ...
Can the copy sound better than the original? I tried playing CD's on my iMac through a DAC. Didn't sound very good. Burned the CD to the iMac hard drive. Played the burned version and it sounded considerably better.Lesson, clearly the transport makes a huge difference. The copy is hopefully ...
Sabre EE Minimax Plus - Calyx - Audiolab 8200DQ Guydebord,No I am not using the Kingrex PSU. I'm just using the stock PSU. You have the option of using the USB power or the PSU. Meets my needs.Doug,I took your advice and set up a EE minimax with recommend mods to the output tube and opamps. Als...
Sabre EE Minimax Plus - Calyx - Audiolab 8200DQ I owned the original minimax (modded) and agree it is outstanding for the money. Have not heard the 'plus' but assume it's even better.I now own the Calyx and feel it is superior to the Minimax. Well worth the extra cost. Only caveat, with the Cal...
Looking for a $1k DAC that delivers? The EE dac is excellent. I owned the original. Highly recommended. More of a warm, organic sound than the W4S, which is likely more neutral.
Decent budget Blu-Ray The NAD T557 is a great little player. Loads very fast, great picture.
When is optical or coax cable or usb best? depends on the dac design and the output options you have from the source. If a Macbook, you get optical or usb. some Dacs are designed specifically for USB and often work best that way. Some dacs focus on digital hardwiring and usb is an afterthou... |
