Number of yrs. to reach the finished line?
There is no finish line. It's like quitting smoking. You are really just putting off having the next one.30+ years at it and still messing around.
Speakers free of grain, glare and steel?
Aerial 5's or Harbeth. To me the Aerials are magic.
HDMI vs Digital Optical output for Universal playe
For CD listening, I'd definitely use a decent set of analogue interconnects. HDMI is for 5 channel. This way you will use the OPPO dac instead of the NADs. Just use the analogue by-pass in the NAD for music.
How Much Difference Does a More Powerful Amp Make?
Given your speakers are quite efficient, I doubt you'd notice any difference at all. Yes, more is always better, but 150 is already more.
In the under $2500 category, diminishing returns?
Having owned/tried pretty much every integrated under $4K, I've learned that diminishing returns don't really start to kick in until about $3k (new list price). But you have to double the price to get 'a lot' more. A $2k is way better than $1k, $3...
Favorite iTunes Radio Stations THREAD
I'm hooked on Radio Paradise. Play a wide variety of stuff.
OK to use Splitter for 2 Subs-Receiver has 1 port
I'd not be inclined to used 2 different subs - basically the sound mismatch. As for the onkyo, you could use the sub out for one, and a pre-out for the other. Of course it would make setting up a mess.I'm surprised Onkyo had an issue, you are just...
Speaker cables for Linn Kan I
I use Kimber 8tc with Linn Katan's. Works very well.A very nice cable is the LFD biwire. I use it with Aerial 5's. Extremely detailed and tight with no hardness.I'm sure there are tons of other choices....
is finding a good a/v preamp/amp asking too much?
For 2k you are pretty much out of luck on a new surround pre/pro/amp that is also OK for music. The only set I can think of is from Marantz, but runs $2.5k plus new. For you budget, you might look into 2 channel - lots of great choices if you go t...
MiniMonitor 33lbs w/realistic vocals,not bright.
Have a look at the little Harbeth's or Spendors. Both are known for their midrange and smooth top end. I own Aerial 5's, which are pretty much as good as it gets, in my view.
New Giant Television
Sharp has just come out with a 70" LED model. I own a 60" Sharp and am very happy with it. Might be worth checking out.
SimAudio i3.3 vs Naim SuperNait
How about the i3.3 vs. Naim XS? Have done that one. To me, the Sim is more detailed and perhaps a little lean (I hate to use the term clinical) with a very tight bottom end. The Naim has that PRat thing going - nice pace and rhythm, but lacks in m...
Best DAC from $1500 to $2500 or so
I think with a tube and op amp mods, there is not much that will beat the minimax. The reviews seem to suggest weiss et all will give a more refined but less organic presentation.
NuVision or Panasonic or Samsung flat screen?
I recently went with the new Sharp 60" Quattron. Out of the box it is pretty nasty to look at, but there are tons of settings and once set up properly I couldn't be happier. I like it much better than the Samsung products. It replaced an older Pion...
Wyred4Sound Dac-2 vs Preamp and separate DAC
My understanding is that passive pre-amps (such in the W4S) are not as good as a dedicated active pre-amp. Seems to lose some air and detail.Suggest you go for the DAC 1 and a proper pre-amp.
