Thorens TD-160MKII Channel Imbalance
Most cartridges only claim R and L channel balance +/-0.5db, so your cartridge may be within manufacturer's spec, but it does seem the imbalance problem resides in the cartridge.  Like I also said, when the voltages are as tiny as those produced b...
Is this amount of record/tonearm bobbing "normal"
+4 for MC, slaw, and Dover.  Watching the bottom edge of the platter as it rotates through the window for the speed sensor, it looks to be moving up and down, as MC notes.  The top edge of the platter proper (not the mat or the LP) appears to be u...
Thorens TD-160MKII Channel Imbalance
I guess you know that it is not really the "turntable" causing the channel imbalance you observe.  It's gotta be the cartridge, cartridge alignment, or the phono stage.  You say you're using an oscilloscope to observe the imbalance, but unless I m...
Lyra Delos or Hana ML
Perhaps you are taking a cue from a remark that was made on another thread recently, where the OP was considering a Hana, and someone gave a favorable mention to the Delos as an option the OP was not considering.  Personally, I would not let such ...
Does anyone manufacture an alternative Linn Sondek belt pulley ?
Linn advocates are among the most loyal I have ever "seen" in the audio world.  If an individual owner has a problem with set-up, it is almost always the fault of the owner, and if only he or she would go to a dealer or some other Linn expert for ...
Tube question - who makes Magnum Dynalab Reference 6922 Cryovalves??
"The tubes (both old/new production) were later cryo'd by outsourced providers." That's exactly what I said too, or was trying to say.
A new way of adjusting anti skate!
Agree, centripetal force, in the Newtonian sense, is not the issue.  I am aware that the "real Wally" passed away a few years ago. I just figured "wally" was a reasonable way of indicating that I was responding to your post.
Tube question - who makes Magnum Dynalab Reference 6922 Cryovalves??
I strongly doubt that any real tube manufacturer ever cryo-treated their product.  In my experience, that is always an option occasionally offered by the better tube vendors.  But I am always willing to learn something new.
Classic Ortofon Cartridges: The MC2000 MK II or the MC3000 MK II?
No argument here.
Tube question - who makes Magnum Dynalab Reference 6922 Cryovalves??
6922s are very plentiful, similar to 6DJ8 and 7308. If you want reliable sources, I’d suggest RAM Labs, Jim McShane, Antique Electronic Supply, Kevin (can’t recall last name). I have left out other reliable sellers, but don’t buy off eBay unless y...
Luxman PD 441 lubrication
Chakster is your man, but he’s been away from the forum for a while. The simple answer to your question is that the bearing and the spindle shaft are what needs lubricating in a direct drive turntable. If you have purchased one that has not been s...
Classic Ortofon Cartridges: The MC2000 MK II or the MC3000 MK II?
Raul and Edgeware you are correct and I was wrong in stating that 2.2g to 2.7g was the range of VTF for the MC2000. I was reading a table for the MC2000mkII when I got the info believing it to be for the MC2000. It seemed incorrect to me too, and ...
Classic Ortofon Cartridges: The MC2000 MK II or the MC3000 MK II?
Yeah, don't think I own one, but I might.  Usually I am not one for test LPs. My question is really why, not whether it sounds good, although it does.
A new way of adjusting anti skate!
Dear Wally, From your excellent videos (excellent in terms of clarity and presentation), I get that when the line from the pivot to the stylus is perpendicular to a line drawn on the radius of the LP, there will be no tracking force. That is exact...
Classic Ortofon Cartridges: The MC2000 MK II or the MC3000 MK II?
Good points, Raul.  Any thoughts on the surprisingly high recommended VTF (2.2-2.7g), for both cartridges?  My old MC7500 is tracking just fine at about 2.2g.  Before I finally looked up the recommended VTF, I set it at 1.6g, just based on my faul...
