If you were looking for a direct drive turntable ...
Just for the record, in more ways than one, I don't think the Pioneer PLX1000 should be classified as "vintage".  It's a recent model apparently aimed at undercutting the cost factor of the Technics G series turntables, in that it is cheaper than ...
Turntable and cartridge setup known for a marvelous bottom end.
I am not sure you have asked a "good" question, but my Stanton 981LZS has particularly excellent bass clarity and downward extension.  Really, low bass in the room will depend upon many many other factors, besides the cartridge and TT, not the lea...

Mijo, I took a look at your system page.  You do have a beautiful and comfortable looking listening room, and you are obviously a highly skilled woodworker. It's always good when one hobby supports the other.  Seeing where your TT is located, on a...
If you were looking for a direct drive turntable ...
I am getting all verklempt to see the nice photo of a Transcriptors Reference. Back in the day, they were irresistible, and I did own one for a while. No matter whether it was a good turntable or not, no one can say it was not great fun to watch. ...
SUT Interconnects
Captive, low capacitance, short length leads are best, sometimes known as "flying leads", because the leads are directly soldered to the transformer secondaries inside the chassis of the SUT, at that one end. That way you at least eliminate an RCA...
Measuring Turntable Platter Speed
I had a long-delayed second thought. The best course of action, IMO, would be to follow the procedures suggested by MC and oldhvy, and determine whether there is a change in the condition. There are also obvious things, like observing the platter ...
Measuring Turntable Platter Speed
I know exactly how the RR works, Mijo. If the phenomenon that the OP is sensing lasts for less than one full rotation of the platter, I doubt he’d hear it, and the other devices mentioned would be even less likely to detect it.   Anyway, the RR ...
Measuring Turntable Platter Speed
A strobe device may miss what you're trying to identify. The other devices mentioned would be even less likely to catch it, in my opinion. Best would be a Phoenix Engineering Roadrunner but that's too costly for this use. Your ears are free.
A Record Collection/Moral Conundrum - What Would You Do?
Then why are you here? None of us can be privy to the emotions that must govern your ultimate course of action.
If you were looking for a direct drive turntable ...
If you are a relative newbie to this hobby or to DD turntables, it would be a no-brainer to opt for the new Technics, the best one in the G series that you can afford. Among vintage direct drive turntables, my opinion is that the Denon DP80 or DP7...

Yep.  Audiokinesis and Duke Lejeune.  Woofer array. The question of whether the resonance has anything to do with Helmholtz is somewhat relevant, because if it were due to the Helmholtz phenomenon, then you could live on with your prior convictio...
Brinkmann and Koetsu?
I would think that the Brinkmann SL tonearm would have too low vertical effective mass for Koetsu but inertia in the horizontal plane is high with SL tonearms, so perhaps you'd be ok. I love my Triplanar but it was not a good match with Koetsu Uru...

Golly! I am so glad to be instructed by you after only 50 years of messing about with audio.  First, I wouldn't argue for a moment that my SL experience would be improved if I were to add SUBwoofers to the Sound Lab system.  (In other words, woofe...
Sounds like a hot stamper! Jackpot Records, Willie Nelson, "....and then I wrote"
Yes, there are a few titles that I buy over and over again, just searching for the best possible sample of that particular recording. But I've never bought more than, say, half a dozen different copies of any.

You say this whole problem came to light while you were listening to Herbie Hancock’s "Secrets". How does that square with your inference that my own preference for jazz ("old" and new) limits the demands I place on my systems? I also listen to cl...
