Rega Naia later this year
Rega have a great thing going.  Using their design philosophy as justification, they can offer less and less (structure) for more and more $$$.  This reminds me of one definition of a "specialist", as a person who knows more and more about less an...
Pickering XSV/5000 question
I am a fan of the Stanton equivalent to the XSV7500, the 981LZS. And now you mention it, I remember that bit about the 5000/7500.
Phono Stage upgrade to complement Dohmann Helix One Mk 2
"If you play a Bill Evans record, say Waltz for Debby at the volume the music had that night at the Village Vanguard, without subwoofers the SoundLabs will crap  a brick regardless of what amp you are using to drive them." With all respect, this ...
Aligning cart on Rega style arms without defeatable anti-skating?
Some protractors have a tiny dimple in the surface at the point where you want the stylus tip to sit.  Catching the stylus in the dimple is typically enough detention to immobilize the arm while you are trying to do alignment, even with a bit of A...
What's A Good Upgrade From A Manley Steelhead?
The short answer is no, I never talked to them. My unit is out of warranty anyway, and there’s gobs of room for the caps inside, so I just went ahead and did it myself. I understand why they chose overly large value capacitors; they are trying to ...
Help with cartridge wire clips
I hope they apologized. At the very least. They really ought to pay the cost of repairs.

Or you can come to my house and hear great bass response from a pair of 845PXs with no subwoofers. ESLs don’t “hate” bass. They are hampered by diaphragm to stator spacing, bias voltage, panel size, and phase cancellation. And by amplifiers.

Mijo wrote, "A given cartridge is going to require an arm of a given effective mass." My only point was and is that the cartridge and the mounting hardware ARE part of the effective mass of a functioning tonearm, their mass must be included if you...
What's A Good Upgrade From A Manley Steelhead?
Lamm not "lamb" in the last line of my post above.
What's A Good Upgrade From A Manley Steelhead?
Dhcod, you are certainly entitled to your opinion, regarding the superiority of the Lamm phono stage over the steelhead. My opinion is different. I have heard them both, and I do think the steelhead is a bit superior, although not by much. I certa...
Aligning cart on Rega style arms without defeatable anti-skating?
If I understand you correctly, the simple answer is yes, it can be a pain in the butt to set up a cartridge with antiskate applied. All tonearms that I have ever used permit disconnecting the antiskate device while doing an alignment. Have you act...
Help with cartridge wire clips
A toothpick with a round profile works fast and safely to open up the cartridge clips. I wouldn’t go near them with metal tools but an awl would probably work if you’re careful. You do want them to fit tightly as possible so don’t overdo it.

Does the CB manual state whether the value of 17g is inclusive of the weight/mass of a "typical" cartridge and mounting hardware?  If not, then add the weight of the cartridge plus hardware to the figure of 17g.  I enjoy the math and science of th...
Pickering XSV/5000 question
Joseph is in Hartford, CT, I think.  He is a good guy, I agree. I hadn't thought of that option because the question led me to think about a replacement assembly.
Pickering XSV/5000 question
Check eBay for an OEM Pickering stylus assembly.  You might get lucky. I could be wrong but I think other top end OEM Pickering styli will fit, like XSV7500 and XSV4500 or 4000, I forget which of those.  I am not sure why you posted about the DCR,...
