Artemis SA-1 speed problems
I'm sorry, but if your problem is now with the original PS, you supplied no description of what's going on with it. If your problem is still with the motor, I don't see a description of that either.  In any case, if I don't say it someone else wil...
Goldmund T3F Tonearm Schematics
Penso, Meaning no disrespect to your tech, but sometimes a tech will say a device is "unfixable" when what they really mean is "I can't fix it".  But for sure not having a schematic does complicate matters greatly.
SUT - electrical theory and practical experience
First of all, when did I say I disagree with you regarding the relative "speed" of the two types of cartridge?  Second, YOU posted the bandwidth of the Technics SUT when you were trying to claim superiority for vintage SUTs over some modern ones. ...
SUT - electrical theory and practical experience
Wish I knew what you were talking about, Raul.  Solve what?  It was you who posted the information that your vintage SUTs had such a wide bandwidth.  Now when it does not suit you to admit your own facts, you want to reduce the bandwidth so you ca...
Goldmund T3F Tonearm Schematics
Based on my impression that the T3F was a fancy version of the Rabco SL8E, I would have assumed there is not much circuitry involved.  Isn't it just a tiny motor that drives the pivot end of the arm wand in response to the opening and closing of a...
SUT - electrical theory and practical experience
Raul, I’m thinking out loud. Just like you. You and others mentioned that a SUT is capable of an extraordinary bandwidth, out to 300K or even 500KHz. Since bandwidth is necessarily related to rise time, I’m wondering whether it’s justified to infe...
Help me understand cartridge alignment
Clearthinker, Your remark about parallel tracking tonearms is totally beside the point, but someone will always bring up parallel tracking tonearms in a discussion about alignment, so you cannot be blamed. But it doesn’t help us or the OP to under...
Help me understand cartridge alignment
Everyone who’s responded is correct except everyone equates tracking angle error (the degrees by which the cantilever is not tangent to the groove) with “distortion”. Where are the data that confirm a linear relationship between the two?
Help me understand cartridge alignment
This is the kind of thing that good little vinylphiles don’t mention. Rigorous alignment is a sine qua non, except when it isn’t.
Mono Cartridge Question
I know I knew that at some point.  Thanks, Dave.
Mono Cartridge Question
My policy is if the performance is old enough to have been recorded in mono, and if neither the jacket nor the label proclaim it’s stereo, then I flip the mono switch. But that doesn’t answer my own question. However as a result I’m playing all mo...
Mono Cartridge Question
The problem is: Define "old mono" vs "new mono".  Definition to be used in deciding whether to use the 0.7mil stylus vs a 1.0mil stylus.  I have read many different opinions on that score, and it may vary by label as well as year of manufacture.
SUT - electrical theory and practical experience
If a SUT studied as a unit can exhibit a frequency response out to 300KHz, how can it be the principle culprit in determining a relatively slow rise time? Most cartridges do not respond out to 300KHz so far as I know.
Tube PHONO preamp interference - RFI, EMI, bad grounding?
Dover, You wrote, directed at me, "There is 230 volts floating around - you should be more careful if you are going to give advice on this forum."  Your advice directed at me is good advice for all of us.  However, I don't see where I advised any ...
Phono Cartridge Purchase from Asia?
The Koetsu distributor in the US might not honor any warranty on these cartridges, but Koetsu the company in Tokyo might well do so, if the cartridge was sourced in Japan.  I bought an Urushi in person from a reputable salon in Tokyo, and when I g...
