Cartridge setup experts: Azimuth critique
avanti, You have stated the cogent argument for setting azimuth so the stylus profile is symmetrically sitting in the groove and ignoring electrical parameters while also choosing only well made cartridges from mainstream companies that are likely...
Cartridge setup experts: Azimuth critique
No grooves on the LP. The idea is a symmetrical contact with the groove, but looks ok. Don’t sweat it.

Keep in mind, Rothwell are selling transformers.
Lyra Kleos arrives after eight months. . Worth the wait? First impressions
Sounds like they ARE fine, in fact.

Sounds like the EC500 uses internal SUTs for MC cartridges, judging from Dover’s quote of the specs. “40 ohms” would refer to the internal R of the cartridge for example. The 2.5 ohm inputs would probably be fine for the Kleos. But it is indeed a ...
DIY TT
Holmz, just buy the SOTA Eclipse package complete. Does it occur to you that the question “ where do I buy a DIY platter and bearing?” Is internally an oxymoron, since DIY implies you want to make those items yourself. Raul, I have no conviction ...
Mono Cartridge Question
I am sure one can convert a Jubilee to mono, if its internal works are like those of the London.
Mono Cartridge Question
Ortofon mono cartridges are usually stereo cartridges where the two channels are internally bridged, but their verbiage is typically ambiguous enough to allow the reader to believe the cartridge is true mono. So “coils” (plural) is probably accura...
Balance control?
The trim pots in the Herron might alter plate resistance on the input voltage amplifier tubes, which would affect gain. In my opinion most audiophiles would get in trouble fiddling with such a parameter. Or they may operate in some other way. Rega...
Will this stuff ruin my records?
Here we go again. Please read Antinn’s discourse on why not to use Dawn or any other commercial dishwashing detergent.
Mono Cartridge Question
I respect your opinion, because you’ve tried it both ways.
Will this stuff ruin my records?
If it smells like dry cleaning fluid, dump it !!! Dry cleaning fluid would likely damage vinyl. Then read the thread on cleaning vinyl properly. In my VPI I use distilled water containing Isopropyl alcohol up to 25% plus a few drops of Triton X10...
Mono Cartridge Question
Which is why I asked the question. The difference between using a mono cartridge vs a mono switch is that in the first case the mono signal is derived before loading, RIAA correction, and amplification. Whereas using a mono switch on a linestage o...
Mono Cartridge Question
All of you guys who extoll the virtues of using a mono cartridge on a mono LP, do you have a mono switch on your linestage?  And if so, do you hear a difference between the mono switch used with a stereo cartridge vs a mono cartridge?  My opinion ...
SUT - electrical theory and practical experience
Raul, with regard to your question above, who is “Palmer”?  Anyway I hope I conveyed my opinion that current driven phono stages are not categorically better than voltage driven ones. They’re just a novel approach to an old problem. Again, in my o...
