Ray Charles - "Rap is not music"
'Back in the day', soul music was probably the most popular music outside of the Beatles and such, and before the Beatles, soul music totally dominated the pop charts. Rap/hip-hop is hugely popular among all kinds of people, largely in their teen...
Women Who Rock
@tylermunns - yes, I can see that differentiation between music fans' discussions and industry awards. Categorization can be such a graveyard for great music that remains unheard because of it.
Women Who Rock
My point is that: People consider a male artist an….artist. A female artist is a…”female artist.”   It’s just stupid.   No one would make a thread of “best male vocalists”  is not quite accurate, and I have seen threads of 'best male vocalists'...
Women Who Rock
@tylermunns - aren't there awards categories like 'Best Male Vocalist'?
Women Who Rock
@blackbag20 - That's pretty funny! And it's the reason I never got into those early Rush albums.
Genelex Gold Lion KT 88 “burn circles”?
That's just what some tubes do. I've had 3 pairs of 300B tubes, including $1300/pair Western Electrics, and the glass towards the bottom turned dark on all of them quite quickly with use.
Women Who Rock
@tylermunns - indeed, and if they are good with it, so am I, and it often applies to more than just artists, too.

You might be able to say that about many marginalized demographics....
Some famous reviewers have atrocious listening rooms!
I'd rather hear from a reviewer who might have a 'real world' listening space like most viewers would. A review from an acoustically perfect space would give me no information at all about what I might expect in my own place.
Beatles vs. Stones
@unreceivedogma - the scene that sticks out most for me was when they are all around the mic doing the 'Woo! Woooo!'s in the background for 'Sympathy'.
LOUDEST Concert and Tinnitus
@sejodiren - and I worked in the local wholesale record business at the time, so one of our local WEA reps (Bam Bam!) also got me a Warner Brothers live U2 promo-only album; I think that's pretty rare these days.
Solo sucess
Phil Collins remained with Genesis while also doing his solo career; he did not split from the band.
LOUDEST Concert and Tinnitus
@sejodiren - I saw U2 on that first tour as well, at the Old Waldorf in San Francisco; they played 2 shows in one night; I got to stick around for both.
Ripping CD's to hard drive
@m_j_s - totally agree; I can certainly tell the difference between an .mp3 and a ripped CD, and it's a big difference, at least on my system.
A SHOCKING DISCOVERY ABOUT DIGITAL AUDIO
I thought doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is called 'practice'. Never understood that quote, and was it really said by Albert Einstein?
